October brings around breast cancer awareness month. It is the time of the year when you can find anything and everything in pink. It is a time where people from all over share in the desire to end the same cause.
We all know someone that has been affected by this evil disease. Whether it is your Aunt, your coach, your parents, your family member, your friend, or just someone you know through someone else. I feel as though we can say that we know someone who has been affected. Or you have a friend who knows someone who has been affected. Remember those people this month as well. Cancer is a disease that infects the patient, but it affects the whole family.
This month is so important to some people. It is a time to celebrate the lives of those who have been diagnosed, fought the fight, continue to fight or even lost the fight with this terrible disease. It is also a time to support those people who have just been diagnosed, the ones who do not know what they have to do next.
This month is something that is so meaningful to the patients. It is their chance to share their stories. It's their chance to come together and be united among other women (or men) who also struggle with this horrible thing. It is their chance to support others that are also struggling. It is a month for their particular cancer to be recognized.
So here's to the patients who just found out that they were going to have to fight the fight. I hope you know that you are not alone. You have a large community of people who are fighting the fight right next to you. I know that it is not the same battle, just know that you are not alone.
Here's to the families of the patients affected by the disease. I cannot imagine what it feels to be there for all of that. I bet it is stressful and confusing. I bet that the times get so hard it seems unbearable, but you keep going. I admire your strength. I do not know how you can do that all the time. I do know that even when you feel like you are not making a difference to the patient, you are. It is always nice to have someone there for you.
I know that personally, I have had important people in my life affected by this horrible cancer. My heart has ached for not only them but their family members as well. I just wish that I could somehow take the pain away from them all. It is also in these experiences, that I have admired their strengths. They have shown me what it is like to go through the hardest times and still smile. I am so thankful for them, and what they have taught me.
Breast cancer awareness month is so very special to us. We all can find a way to help or contribute to this cause! Wear pink, sign up for an awareness walk, raise money, donate, try to understand what breast cancer really is. Do something to help someone in your community!
