To My Long-Distance Best Friend

Happy Birthday.

To My Long-Distance Best Friend

I feel like I have always been very different to most of my girlfriends. Don’t get me wrong, I really love them, but we have very unique personalities and distinct qualities. However, when I met you I think we really connected because we were very similar. This is why you became the little sister I never had.

I’ll never forget the day you woke up screaming because you had leg cramps, and I seriously thought there was something wrong with you. This is one of the memories that makes me laugh the most because it just shows how dramatic you are.

The time we ate an entire Nutella jar accurately represents our love for Italian food, and it’s one of my favorite memories of us. I love that we both like Latin music, especially dancing to it. I feel like those summer nights really brought us closer together.

I appreciate our friendship a lot, but I think I don’t show my appreciation as much as I should. I am very grateful for having you in my life because I know I can always count on you no matter what. Even though it is weird to think that we haven’t seen each other in almost three years, every time we FaceTime it feels like it has only been a day since the last time we met.

It is easy to drift apart from people, especially as you become older and start new chapters in your life. We’ve both experienced big changes these past few years, and I am so happy we have been able to keep in touch.

I want to be forever infected by the happiness you spread. I love that there are no dull moments with you because you definitely know how to enjoy life, and I want to be surrounded by that joy as long as I can.

It is true what they say, distance does make the heart grow fonder.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
