An Open Letter To My Older Sister

Dear Sister,

I know we may not always see eye to eye or understand each other, but there is no one that could ever replace you as the world’s greatest sister (yes, I mean it). We may bicker and argue from time to time, or all the time, but none of those times are able to lessen the fact that I love you more than anything in the world.

Thank you for always being on my side, even when I did not deserve it. You are always there to defend me and be my partner in crime, no matter what the cost would be for you. Even though you may have fought with mom or dad because of this, I still appreciate that you were still there for me.

Thank you for letting me borrow any of your belongings and not getting completely mad at me when you found out. Raiding your closet for my outfit the next day was always fun… until you needed that same exact shirt. Then, we basically would reenact a world war, JUST to see who would get to wear the shirt. I know I also “borrowed” your purses and never gave them back, but don’t worry, you know where they are.

Thank you for understanding me. It’s not always that siblings are born 14 months apart, but we were. Everything that I went through or are going through, you did shortly before me. It is nice to be able to turn to you when I need to talk because mom cannot just understand how I am feeling. You were there for it all and were able to understand and help me in every single way possible!

Thank you for not killing me after all these years. I know I can be a pain in the butt, annoying, and sassy, but remember, I learned it all from you (and maybe mom). As your little sister, it is my job and duty to annoy and irritate you because let’s be serious, I’d be failing as a younger sibling if I did not bother you at all.

I’m very grateful to have a sibling like you who understands me a little bit more than I understand myself. There is no one else I’d rather come to for all my problems and no one else I’d ask advice for. We may be different in some ways, but I’m glad that we are primarily the same person when it comes to the important matters. I mean, who else is going to defend me when I am fighting with mom on the presidential candidates?

There isn’t anyone else I’d rather have as my older sister than you. You are more than just my older sister; you are my other half and my best friend and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Thank you for being such a great role model, a great older sister and a great inspiration to me. I love you.

From,

Maria

P.S. You’re going to be an awesome teacher someday! I believe in you!

The Battle Between College And My Mental Health

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?

For the average 20-something, life moves pretty fast. You’ve got classes, friends, relationships, jobs, family, and whatever else we overcommit ourselves with. I probably should have learned to say no to adding more to my schedule a long time ago, but instead here are 11 things that can be more helpful than coffee.

Resting b***h face. Defined as a person, usually a girl, who naturally looks mean when her face is expressionless, without meaning to. Many of you suffer from this "condition." You are commonly asked what's wrong, when nothing is. What people don't know is that is just your facial expression. Here are some things they wish you knew.
