"Open Your Heart to Everyone"

Apple send a Christmas message we should listen to all year long.

"Open Your Heart to Everyone"

It's the time of year again, where companies make commercials that are heartwarming and thoughtful. Commercials that paint a picture of unity, caring, and community. But this year there is one that really makes a statement, especially in light of current events.

Although I chose Android over Apple, I will admit that Apple creates some of the greatest commercials I have ever seen, something artistic and meaningful seems to be displayed in every one of their advertisements.

And this year, their Christmas commercial really hits homes, hopefully to all Americans, or all people, for that matter, worldwide.

It starts with Frankenstein, using an iPhone to record the song from a music box. He then uses his phone to learn the lyrics to the song. He grabs his hat, grabs a package, and walks through the woods into town. There is a crowd gathered around a Christmas tree in the center of town. He walks through the crowd who gasp in horror at the sight of him. He opens the package which contains two Christmas lights, screws them into his neck, pushes play on his phone and begins to sing "Home for the Holidays". The crowd watches in disgust, he starts to second guess himself, one of the lights goes out, and he stops singing. A man in the crowd shouts, "go home!", as others whisper to each other. But then a child, a little girl, waves him over, fixes the light in his neck, and begins to sing where he had left off and he joins in again. Soon the entire crowd begins to sings, shocking Frankenstein, spreading a smile across his face and bringing a tear to his eye.

But the most important part is the message at the end. The words, "Open your heart to everyone" flashes across the screen, right before the Apple symbol and the end of the commercial.

Our country and world has become so full of hate towards others, anyone different or unique, and that really needs to change. Why is it children who are constantly teaching how we should treat others, no matter who they are, where they come from, or what their background is?

Maybe it is because they are innocent and haven't yet seen the terrors of the world, but maybe that is how we all should be. We should all see people as people and nothing more than that. Definitely don't judge someone because of their background.

This commercial has a simple message, simple meaning, and is such a simple but meaningful concept. Be kind, care about people, no matter if you know them or not. It is so important to start showing compassion for people, everyone and anyone. This world needs a positive change. Apple is a big influence on our society. You listened to them when they told you to buy their new iPhone, listen to them now. Open your heart to everyone.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
