An Open Letter To My Future Self

"Cherish the little things, don’t take anything or anyone for granted, and live every day to the fullest, because life is too short to lead a life of mediocrity."

Dear Future Me,

I hope that you are incomprehensibly happy with how life is at the moment and continues to be that way. I hope that you are doing things that make you happy and not what makes other people happy.

I hope that people have learned not to take you for granted and that you are not a pushover. At the same time, I hope you are giving and kind human being and that you use your blessings to bless others.

I hope that you feel fulfilled in the best way possible. That you feel full because of the important things, like the people you have surrounded yourself with and the faith that you keep and not materialistic things or by what others think about you.

If you by any means feel you are empty or unaccomplished, take charge of your life and change that.

It is never too late to make a difference in your own life no matter how old you get. Don’t be scared to take risks for the sake of your own happiness.

At the same time, remember that life won't always turn out the way that you had so desperately hoped, but know that everything happens for a reason.

Remember that some things are beyond your control, whether you want to believe it or not. So be strong and confident in what life throws at you.

I hope you always stay close to the family. No matter how far away you move off or how busy life gets, don’t forget to keep communication with the people who love you unconditionally. Your love for them always deserves to be acknowledged.

I hope you are physically and mentally healthy. If you feel like there is ever room for improvement in those areas, then make the necessary change. It’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your own health.

Don't forget to take some time for yourself every so often for the sake of your own mental health. It's okay to want to have some alone time when life is so hectic.

Don’t forget to go out and have fun as well. You are only given one life, so take the time to enjoy it. Life doesn't always have to be so serious.

Never forget that there is always room for self-improvement. Sometimes when we’re too busy taking care of others, we forget to take care of ourselves. Put yourself first when you can, meditate, and always be positive.

Don’t ever lose sight of who you are. You are kind, strong, and a difference maker. Don’t ever let anyone else tell you who you are in this world because most people are ignorant and no one knows you better than yourself.

Most of all, I hope that life treats you kindly, but that you also know how to be thankful for the days where it feels like the complete opposite.

Cherish the little things, don’t take anything or anyone for granted, and live every day to the fullest, because life is too short to lead a life of mediocrity.

Sincerely,

Yours Truly

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
