Dear band directors,
It's that time of year where football games are in season, which means so is marching band. Every year around this time, it is hard to not feel nostalgic over some of my best memories in high school. But, this letter is about more than just those feelings of the past, it is a thank you for helping me be the person I am today.
Most people will never understand everything you have taught and given me. Your program made me a person I can be proud of. Your lessons on being confident when playing went further than a stage. You also taught me what hard work and discipline were (and God knows my 13-year-old self needed it). You taught me to never give up even when the going gets tough because sometimes one more one through is really what you need the most when you want it the least. You taught a once shy yet rambunctious teenager how to be a leader. You taught me it is OK to fail and that the most important part is that you stand back up. Not only have you given me these traits, but you have given me so much more.
You have given me friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. Those kids who I used to sing on bus rides with or dance shamelessly to stand tunes are the people who I still talk to daily. They are my rocks, and some of the most wonderful people that I could ever ask for. Because of you and your program I have a countless number of memories that can bring a smile to my face. In a world where so many people reflect on how awful high school was I look back with nothing but fond memories because of what you and your program did for me. Words can not express how thankful I am for those years and from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
Sincerely,
Former Band Kid
