An Open Thank You To The Best Coach I've Ever Had
Karlie Middleton

Growing up as an athlete, I've had my fair share of coaches. I had coaches that saw a future in me and coaches who benched me way more often than they put me in the game. Simply and honestly because they didn't like me as a person. I had coaches that have pushed me until I couldn't breathe anymore and coaches that didn't push me hard enough. I had coaches that grew to become close buddies and some coaches that became enemies. But when I think about it all the coaches who have coached me throughout my years as an athlete, there's one coach who stands out way above the rest. She's the one women has molded me into the athlete and women that I am today.

This coach taught by example. Far too many coaches stand on the sidelines and watch us athletes run, however, she ran with us. Every time we did a workout such as lifting in the weight room she would do it with us. She in no way asked us to do anything she wasn't willing to do. She didn't TELL us how to be a better athlete, in fact, she SHOWED us.

No matter what happen, you never doubted my future or my ability to do something. You constantly pushed me, helped me and encouraged me. You believed in me so much, that you made me start believing in myself. Thank you for believing in my future, and reassuring me of your support. Thank you for never letting me settle for less than my best.

You have given me the best years I could ask for. I will always look back on the time I had you as my coach with a huge smile on my face. Thank you for giving me extremely good advice that I will forever look back on and cherish for the rest of my life. I will by no means forget about you.

There aren't enough words to entirely express my gratitude. I hope one you realize I would not be the person I am today if it weren't for all your guidance, love, and support along the way. You have such a big soul, and I'm forever grateful to know you have the privilege of learning from you. You gave me a home away from home. I'm so grateful that we still keep in touch with each other on a daily basis because I know I would be lost without. Someday, I hope to be a coach and I hope to make as much as an impact on my athletes as much as you did on me.

Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for teaching me true strength. Thank you for being by my side every step of the way. Thank you for inspiring me. Thanks for being a text or phone call away when I need something. Thanks for taking random selfies with me. Thank you for being patient with me. Thank you for helping me achieve my dreams. Thank you for picking me up each time I fell. Thank you for the memories.

I hope I made you proud over the years.

Sincerely and always grateful,

Your former athlete.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
