She's a superhero.

An Open Thank You To My Mom
Cierra Dillman

Hi Mom, this one is for you.

Everyone has a mother. A mother is the person who carried you for nine months and gave birth to you. She's the person whose genes you carry and the person who you probably look like. Everyone has a mother, but not everyone has a mom. A mom is so much more than the looks you have or the person who gave birth to you. She's a friend, a teacher, a comfort, a support system and everything you need in a person wrapped in one.

I have a mom, but also a best friend in you. You're everything I hope to be when I am older and anything I know or do is because you have always taught me to do my best and then push even harder than that. You're an inspiration to me. You are the type of person that others are jealous of and wish to be like.

I want to thank you for being my best friend. You're always there to support me with anything, even my bad decisions. You're the first person I turn to when something goes wrong or I need to vent about something. When describing you to friends I always say that you're a teenager in an adult body with wisdom that you shouldn't have. I've never met someone so great with words and knows exactly when to use them. Thank you for being my right hand and the person that I can always turn to.

Thank you for not judging me, for not making my bad decisions rule my life. Thank you for teaching me everything I know in life. My work ethic and drive come from you. You've always made sure I had the resources to succeed and make something of myself. You've always made sure that I was going to be whatever I put my mind to.

I know that many times I can frustrate you with my "college attitude" or my sassy responses but you've never made me feel like this was a bad thing. That being myself was wrong. You've said I need to know when to use it but never made me feel less than what I'm worth. I've been incredibly blessed with you as my mom. You've been the person who has encouraged me to be anything that I have dreamed about being.

A lot of the times I don't thank you, or give you enough recognition for what you do for me and everyone who is lucky enough to have you in their lives. So here it is, Mom, you're amazing. A superhero actually. You always put others needs before your own even when you're sick ,or you hurt, or you're tired. You are a healer and a therapist. You make problems seem smaller than what they are. You make it okay. You work so hard and sometimes you do too much. You never think of yourself and you are always worried about others happiness. You amaze me every single day.

Thank you for being selfless and generous. Thank you for being understanding, kind and patient. I strive to one day be as amazing of a woman, a mom, as you are. Nobody could ever replace everything you've taught me and everything you've given me. I can never repay you for all the valuable lessons and moments we've shared. You're my role model and I wouldn't be half the person I am today if it were not for you.

Thank you, Mom. For not only being my best friend, but for being you. I love you.

Sincerely,

Your Daughter

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
