An Open Letter To Girls Going Through Recruitment

It's about that time. School is in full swing, and you decided to sign up and give recruitment a go.

No one's recruitment experience is the same. You'll make amazing connections with girls, get an overwhelming amount of information about each sorority, and quite frankly, you may just want to give up.

I remember going through recruitment, and I kept asking myself... is this all this talking and exhaustion really worth it? The answer to this is, yes.

Rounds are long, conversations may become repetitive, it's hot in the houses, and yup, your feet are going to hurt. But a weekend of getting to talk to amazing girls is something special, so the sweating and the feet aches aren't all for nothing, I promise you that.

Nervous? So are the active members.

Nerves are inevitable, especially in the first stages of recruiting. But you're not alone. Even the active members are nervous. The best and most important thing to remember is just to be yourself. You'll find your home by being the best version of you, not by trying to be someone else.

Keep an open mind.

This is probably the most important thing to remember during recruitment. No matter how much you may love one sorority versus another, don't write anyone off. Some girls don't find where they're meant to be until one of the last rounds. Keeping an open mind also eases the disappointment you may receive if you don't get asked back to a house you may have fallen in love with.

Trust the system.

You'll probably hear this one time and time again. But you will run home to exactly where you're meant to be.

Don't stress about the little things.

Sure, what you're wearing each round is important. However, outfits don't mean the difference between you getting asked back to a house or not. Another thing a lot of girls worry about is, "what if they don't like me?" That's not something to stress about either. Being yourself and being engaging in conversation is the two most important things that an active member could ask for.

Last, and certainly not least - talk to your Rho Gamma.

Recruitment is overwhelming and can be a lot to handle at times. However, that's what your Rho Gamma is for. They lose their letters, so they can help you find yours. They will be there for you 110 percent, no matter what you want to talk to them about. Utilize them. They want you to find where you're meant to be just as badly as you do.

Be patient, the best is yet to come! <3

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
