An Open Letter To My Future Students
Labris

Dear future students,

I am so excited for the day when you walk into my classroom, and into my life. I can't wait to fill your minds with all I know and to enrich your lives and make them a little better. I know you may not be eager to be in class, but I promise I will do what I can to make it enjoyable for you.

Right now, you're probably in middle school, elementary school, or maybe you haven't been born yet. I'm in college, and in a few years, I'll be teaching you. It's hard to believe, really it is. Here are my promises to you.

I promise to always respect you. I will never judge you for where you come from or what you look like. I will accept you for who you are. I'm not going to belittle you or make you feel worthless or dumb. I never, ever, want you to feel like you're not smart enough; because you are.

I promise to offer a safe environment. When you come to school every day, you should feel safe and not have to worry about bullying. I will not tolerate bullying in my classroom.

I promise to be trustworthy. You can come to me for anything, remember: I won't judge you. If you are going through a bad time in your life, I will be there to help you get back on your feet when you fall. I want to help you in any situation I can, that's one of the reasons I'm here.

I promise to help. I want to help you, teach you, and guide you, so that you are doing the best you can. When you need help in my class, I will make sure that you can earn the grade you work for. I can be there when you're trying to figure out college stuff, just ask me.

I promise that you will learn. I will teach you all I know, or all I'm required to teach. More importantly, I will teach you about life. I'll tell you how what you learn relates to the world around you. When you leave my classroom, you will leave with knowledge for life.

I can't wait until the day I walk into the classroom to greet you all. I am striving to do my very best now so that I can help you do your very best later. Remember that I am here to teach you, help you grow, and hopefully make a difference in your life.

It is that time of year again. Christmastime. It is one of my favorite seasons for a myriad of reasons. Here are just a few reasons why I love Christmas. This list is in no order of importance.

1. The Christmas decorations

I am that person who will decorate directly after Thanksgiving is over. This year, my roommates and I put the tree up in our apartment before we even left for Thanksgiving break. It is a great stress reliever for me to just sit in my living room and work on the huge amount of work I have before the semester is over.

Mistakes are something we all make, no matter how old we get. Most of the time, the mistakes we made are little and sometimes due to something out of our control. Yet, there are mistakes that are bigger than others. Personally, I have mistakes that I wish I could go back and undo. Here they are:

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?
