An Open Letter To My Youngest Aunt

I love you regardless, but I love the fact that we're able to grow up together.

When Mommy found out she was pregnant, you were the person she was most excited to tell. You were the one that talked to me from that moment forward.

You sang to me and cuddled me and completely ignored Mom except for her belly most days. You loved me more than you'd loved anyone else before I was even born.

You told my mom that you wanted to keep me all to yourself. You got excited over kicks and ultrasounds and heartbeats and doctors appointments, almost more than Mommy. You were my first best friend.

When I was born you got to miss school to come see me. I was the first baby you ever saw in the hospital.

You smothered me with love. You called me your baby and when you finally went to school, you bragged about me for months.

You still brag about me and get excited about my milestones. I can't stand up or take a step without your applause. You are my biggest fan.

You have held my hand during shots and held my hand for my first steps. You kiss me and cuddle me even when I fight it.

You pick out my clothes and feed me bottles. You continue to sing to me every day. You may not be the best singer but that doesn't stop me from loving every song you make up for me.

You are my best friend. You are my playmate. You are my biggest supporter. You are my favorite person.

Put us together and we erupt with laughter. You always know what silly face or noise will make me smile.

You know me better than anyone. I'm so glad that you are young enough to grow up with me, but I am also glad that you're old enough to be my guide and guard.

I just want to say thank you. Thank you for being "the good guy" no matter what. Thank you for laughing at my poop when Mommy doesn't think it's funny.

Thank you for being patient when no other kid would like a crying baby. Thank you for showing me everything there is to experience as a baby, and for everything else I know you'll show me for the rest of my life. I can't wait for a lifetime of adventures with you.
