An Open Letter To Westboro Baptist

You are NOT a chuch, you're a cult of hate.

I have watched countless documentaries and interviews to try to comprehend where you are coming from. I wanted to see why you preached hate instead of love. After watching them, I realized you are a cult of hate instead of a church. I am Catholic and I was raised to know that no matter what, God will forgive and love everyone. In fact, the bible states that you should "love thy neighbor", which means to love everyone. I cannot comprehend how you justify your own behavior.

We live in a world full of destruction, terrorism, hatred, and hurt. Tragedy happens, people die and disease occurs. While this world should thank God for all he has done, they are allowed to mourn when tragedy strikes. You despise America. We are not keeping you here. If you are not happy, by all means, leave. Holding up signs that say "Thank God For 9/11" or "Thank God For Dead Soldiers" is not only ignorant, but despicable. You protest in NYC on 9/11 anniversaries. This was a day the world stopped. Many Americans lost their lives for just showing up to work. Where were you on 9/11? I remember my mother was waiting for my father to arrive home from NYC that morning. None of us knew what was happening. Luckily, my father came home. I thank God everyday that his building was not attacked. However, some people were not as lucky. There are many widowed spouses and parentless children as a result of 9/11.

You are very much against the LGBTQ community. As I mentioned earlier, God preaches to love everybody. God does not hate "fags" as your horrendous signs say. It is okay if you do not agree with gay marriage, but don't go around and preach that every single gay person is going to hell all because YOU do not agree with their lifestyle. God does not base heaven and hell on sexuality. There are very generous people who are gay. Ellen DeGeneres is a great example. She is one of the most good hearted people in this world. Ellen also happens to be gay. In your world, she is going to hell. In the big picture, I bet she is going to heaven when her time comes because of all the great things she's given to others. You do not have the right to go up to someone who is gay and tell them that they are going to hell. You are committing a sin of hate.

I do believe God gives strongest people the biggest battles. However, sometimes the fight is to hard, and the person surrenders the battle. Holding up signs that say "Thank God For Cancer" is disgusting. I think you are very lucky that you all do not suffer with battles. You think mental illness is horrible, yet protest saying a teenager who committed suicide is going to hell. It is because of hateful people like you that people choose to end their lives. As a so called "church", you should be guiding people to embrace who they are and help them win the inner battles inside of them. However, you choose not to do so.

It is very upsetting that people like you make Christians and Catholics look bad. Not all Christian and Catholic people feel the way you do. You are full of hatred and ignorance. You even protested the funerals of young children that died in an elementary school shooting.

If you ever were to see this, I do expect you to think about your actions. Is this protesting and rudeness really what God wants?

Sincerely,

A Real Follower of God and Proud American

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
