Tomi Lahren, You Deny Your Privilege

Tomi Lahren, You Deny Your Privilege

Tomi Lahren,

You are a 23-year-old, attractive, white woman. You grew up in a middle-class military family in the midwest and received your own television show directly out of college. You are well spoken, confident, and you take pride in speaking your mind. For these qualities, I respect you. I can hear your voice right now, “Oh here we go, a big liberal 'but' is coming to shake away my 'white' privilege!” in your overly loud, near screaming voice that is laden with sarcasm and, although you would never admit it, frustration, to where I must turn down my volume four blocks to not wake my roommates.

Yes, Tomi, you are smart, talented, and, assuming you write your own script, well versed; however, you are not representative of the "majority," you are not bringing "clarity" to the liberals and you are not justifying Trump as a president. You are often incorrect, you are often ignorant, and you are always not just fueling the fire, but rather picking up every stick in sight to build a new one; not to "uncover the truth" but to enrich your viewers with what “everyone is too afraid to say,” which in reality are the deepest hollows of bigotry.

You, Ms. Lahren, deny your privilege. You deny facts that state racism exists, that inequality exists, that the pay gap exists, that gun violence exists, that police brutality exists, that sexism exists. You call on the entire religion of Islam to be blamed for terrorism, you discredit the President of the United States at every chance you get based not on his actions and accomplishments, but on how he addresses the American people -- the people who are of all social classes, of all races, of all sexual orientations, of all religions, of all cultures. You call entire groups of people out for being “sensitive” and “whiny,” yet I have not come across one “Final Thoughts” video that has not included you whining about how people think you’re privileged or racist or radically (yes, not the good kind) conservative, but in fact you are just that, only masked by your “I don’t give a flying you-know-what’s” and “go ahead, call me a racist” taglines.

I recently was scrolling down my Facebook feed to find yet another ramble of yours, in which you (attempted to) shame the great Jesse Williams and his BET speech about racial inequality in this country which, according to you, doesn’t exist. As I was watching I thought nothing of it at first; it’s just another Tomi video, no one really thinks this way. That was until the line of “Do you know how many of our ancestors fought in the Civil War to free your ancestors?” I would like to now begin not only a fact check as well as a reality check, but also a decent human being check.

First, yes our (white people)ancestors fought in the Civil War, but see that was not necessarily to end slavery, but rather to preserve the union. Haven’t you taken fifth grade history? Slavery just happened to be a Southern thing, so it became the subject of state’s rights versus federal rights to you know, keep a person as property. So while modern America accepts the Civil War as a war about slavery, back then it was first a war about preserving the Union to keep America together and remain strong, so your "ancestors" may not have even cared about the slaves for all you know.

Abraham Lincoln said himself he would have allowed slavery if the Union did not separate, but the Confederacy was scared and wanted to do whatever it wanted solo, which included the right to own a person and decide whether or not to sell their children. And you want to desensitize centuries of slavery, yes, unpaid manual labor that by which human beings were forced, beaten, sold and traded by our(white people) ancestors?

Also I wonder, have you researched your ancestry? I haven’t. For all I know my ancestors were slave owners. And that would be sad. And I would be ashamed. And although I could not be blamed for my ancestor’s actions, I sure as hell wouldn't get to say it wasn’t a big deal. Why don't you do something useful with your mouth (rather than ramble on ignorant nonsense) and swab your DNA to get the rundown of exactly who your ancestors were. Ancestry.com has that sort of technology, so get on that before you go on about how innocent your lineage is. White people helped free slaves, but they also were the ones who enslaved them sooo not quite sure what your point was there.

You also often spoke in said video about how black people are always “playing the victim” and are brutal to police. But don’t you understand saying that is the same as saying all police are brutal to black people? You are rebutting an overgeneralized statement with your own overgeneralization. Yes, there is a problem with kids (all races) who live in the projects not "respecting" police, but have you even thought of or cared to ask why? It’s not like they come out of the womb saying “I want to grow up in the projects, sell drugs and piss off policemen!”

As much as the American dream supports being able to become whatever you want to be no matter your background, the reality is that metropolitan areas have entire sections cut off for poor people, or as you would call it, the “ghetto.” And due to yes, inequality, there is a high black population percentage in said areas. Everyone may have the same rights on paper, but when it comes down to it, if a 16-year-old black kid from the projects of Detroit or Chicago wants to go to college and be a TV star like you, how do you suppose he does that? His parents grew up in the projects, as did his grandparents…you know, the ones who were in their twenties during the time of segregated water fountains and assigned public transit seating.

There is no strong education system, healthcare system, or any protective system to help people in the projects leave. It is a never ending cycle that we as a country brush aside every day meanwhile you're getting paid six, maybe even seven figures to do your makeup and "speak for America?" America includes those black kids in the projects, dummy. As well as the other 46 million people living in poverty in the US which, by the way, would correlate nicely with the crime rate, which you would know if you ever actually read up on hard-fact research. And you say that it's all about "black kids" not "respecting authority"...the world is clearly more complex than you can comprehend.

A kid from the projects isn’t scared of going to jail, he’s scared of getting the gang that is his only means of food, shelter, and life caught and then having, one, no means of support and, two, a target on his back. So he runs from the cops, he resists arrest, he does what he has to do to survive. It doesn’t make it right, it doesn’t make it “better” and it doesn’t make it legal...but that's how it is.

And while a policeman may just be trying to do his job, after working with so many anti-police black teenagers, he will get annoyed, he will get mad, and yes, he will racially profile, because that's a real thing. So now a law abiding black teenager may be shot and killed because of the negative connotation a cop had towards him. We are all at fault for allowing the system to fail our young citizens. But for you, Tomi, to sit in your TV studio and rant about how black people have the same rights and opportunities as white people...well, you’re just wrong. Your white privilege has numbed you to reality.

You deny guns are an issue in this country. Okay, I agree that terrorist attacks eight times out of 10 wont be stopped by outlawing guns. Oh wait, no one has proposed outlawing guns or taking away guns from law abiding, mentally sound citizens in the first place. But then still, enforcing regulations on guns won’t always stop ISIS or other terrorist groups from doing what they plan on doing, (although in Orlando the no-fly list suspected terrorist probably should’ve been prevented from buying a gun). But sure, yeah, if he didn’t get one legally he maybe could have gotten one online illegally; but isn’t it our duty to protect our citizens? And doesn’t that duty reach to doing everything in our immediate power to prevent such occurrences?

You know who did need guns? Let’s see…the shooters of Columbine, Sandy Hook, Pulse, Aurora Cinemark, Virginia Tech, Fort Hood, Charleston; and those are just the one’s everyone reading will recognize, there are in fact so many more. And what about gang members? Do you know how many homicides there were in Chicago alone last year? 486. My point is…yes, you have the right to the Second Amendment, and you should! No one is trying to take away your rights. But to say there isn’t a gun problem? Well sorry, like it or not, that’s just not true. You can look at the data of other countries gun policies vs mass shootings and get back to me via Facebook message on what you find.

In other videos you speak often of the political horrors around the world, which I respect and do occasionally find myself agreeing with you. ISIS needs to be stopped. Yes, ISIS…not Islam, not every Muslim-American, not every immigrant or refugee escaping oppression, ISIS. And you ask the question-why doesn’t President Obama “say it for what it is?” Because you have somehow spun the truth to fit your own political bias by assuming that President Obama is soft on terrorism or is afraid of offending people.

Do you not understand that by refusing to call ISIS' terrorism “radical Islam” we, America, are actually denying ISIS the right and the privilege to be identified with a holy and sacred religion? We don’t call the KKK and other Christian extremist groups or individuals “radical Christians” because it is an unspoken knowledge that the majority of Christians do not recognize such groups and people as being representative of Christ, and the church as a whole does not back such groups either.

By not calling ISIS and it’s acts of terrorism “radical Islam” we are actually denying them what they want, which is to be known for doing their acts of terror such as killing and raping hostages, bombing cities and threatening entire groups of people all in the name of Allah. We don’t care that these terrorists think they are doing something in the name of their God, they are not carrying out acts of holy prophecies and we won’t stand to give them the satisfaction in thinking that they are. It’s not about coddling American Muslims or avoiding offending their faith, so why are you still yelling?

I could continue on about how much your anti-feminism rants piss me off, because I cannot fathom how you as a woman...as a person could not agree with feminism. Do you even know the definition? It’s the belief that men and women are equal. And you claim you don’t want to be affiliated with it because you "aren’t oppressed as a woman," have the "same rights" and we need to stop "whining." We may have the same rights on paper, sure, but respect? Seen as equals? Nope. Nada.

As long as sexual assault exists (both ways), women’s reproductive choices are a part of politics, and women aren't respected for their education and work the same as men…you don't get to complain about how women are whiny about their status. And the fact that you deny all of these things?...It's false. You are literally speaking falsely, lying even, when you tell the world that women's issues don't exist. News flash! You aren't the center of the world and you don't know everything. You ignore factual, analytical data because you can't stand that it falls under liberal ideology even though it's true. So you ignore facts to further your own personal political and media agenda.

Oh, and feminism isn't America exclusive, because you know, America isn't the center of the universe. Feminists fight for all women. Including those in countries that kill them for having sex out of wedlock, sew or mutilate their genitals, don't allow them the right to drive or vote, etc. Yes, American women have it pretty good compared to some other parts of this world; but as we fight for complete and total equality: ya know, feminism, we are also taking a stand for women around the world who don't get that chance and who don't have a voice. They are silenced enough as it is, and you are taking a part in it every time you try to silence feminism.

Ugh just God please just don’t talk about women any longer. All you need now is a “Meninist” shirt (which translates to “f**king idiot”).

All in all...race is an issue, inequality is an issue, sexism is an issue, gun violence is an issue. You are making a fool out of yourself, and for what? To simply to keep up the identity of a female Republican conservative? That's just silly. Personally, I am not Republican and I’m not Democrat. I am a human being who sees issues in this world case by case; it just so happens that my compassion, integrity, and common sense tends to fall more on the liberal side. That and actually doing my research and analyzing all factors in national and international issues, even if it doesn't pertain to my privilege of being a white, middle-class, educated woman in America.

Please, use your First Amendment right to be as die-hard Republican as you want, but don’t spew out false and ignorant information to your millions of viewers. Don’t waste hours of our time complaining about how people are complaining for what they believe in: personal rights, justice, freedom, love, etc. because you will never be able to walk in someone else’s shoes.

You are stuck with who you are (and all that white, American born privilege that comes with it) so don’t try to act like you know all that is true in this world when you can only see from one single point of view out of the six billion people on this planet. Oh and especially when that privilege allows you access to the Internet full of thousands of reliable databases in which you could actually research the topics you talk about. But I guess that wouldn't do your "career" (if that's what you want to call fake journalism) any good considering misleading, biased, and false information is what sells and gets you attention/famous/a high salary; I mean look at Trump. You might as well be following in his footsteps of getting the medias attention by screaming bullshit to the world

Anyways, I think my 2,000+ word essay on why I think you, Tomi Lahren, need to shut up is complete.

God Bless You and God Bless America.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

19 Lessons I'll Never Forget from Growing Up In a Small Town

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
