Open Letter To The Girl Learning To Love Herself

So to start it off, I'm just going to mention that loving yourself is one of the hardest things to accomplish in this world. Some people tend to get selfish, but this isn't the kind of self love I am talking about. I am talking about the kind of love where you find your happiness within yourself. Self love is the second most important love after loving God, and it's the hardest to engage in. If you are struggling with this because of a break up, or you depend on people for your happiness, or you have the thoughts of wanting to be more than what you are just remember that God made you the way you are for a reason and that your happiness depends on your actions not other people's. Learning how to love myself has been one of the hardest things I've come across in life yet, and I've been through some difficult times. I am learning to accept my flaws about myself and learning to love myself for who I am. Learning to love yourself also comes along with self respect. Having respect for yourself is so important especially being a girl. Stick to what you believe in and do not let other people change your mind about how you feel. Trust yourself and the decisions you make. Have respect for your self just for the fact that God gave you this wonderful life and you should cherish and honor it in the best way possible for Him. Warsaw Shire once said, "Document the moments you feel most in love with yourself - what you are wearing, who you're around, what you're doing. Recreate and repeat." Do the things that you love to do and do the things that you know will put a smile on your own face. Once you start doing things for yourself and your happiness and everything else you work for will face into place. Just stop and think about this; would you constantly cut down your best friend and tell her she's not worth it or she's not good enough? No? Exactly. You are your own best friend. You are the only person that will always be there for yourself. Your relationship with yourself sets the tone for every other relationship you have. Focus on yourself and your relationship with God. You have to love yourself before you can expect someone to love you fully and in the best way possible. Just during the process of discovering yourself and loving yourself just remember to not let other peoples opinions of you change how you feel about yourself. Treat yourself. Respect yourself. Be the person you want to be, not what other people want you to be. No matter what you are going through in your life, do not lost the focus on loving yourself because that self love will make you strong enough to get through anything that comes your way. If you want to fall in love with something or someone, fall in love with yourself.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
