An Open Letter To My New Roommates

Just a few things you all should know!

An Open Letter To My New Roommates

My Dearest Roomies,

I’m not a morning person.

We’ve gotten to know each other pretty well, I’d like to think, so you know I love each one of you. But I will not like you in the morning; that is until I’ve had coffee. Don’t take my grunts or lack of "Good mornings" personally; I do it to my parents too (sorry, Mom and Dad). I’ve tried to become a morning person but nothing works, so sorry, girls, you’re stuck with me. I’ll make it up to you by making you all breakfast if I have to.

I’m a terrible cook.

I’m going to apologize in advance for my cooking. Whether it’s actual food, something in the microwave, or baking, it’s no good. The only thing I can really make is scrambled eggs. I’ll try though if you guys really want me to, I’ll help but you’re going to have to walk me through it, step by step like a child. But hey, if you cook, I’ll clean. I’m pretty good at that. And yes, I have burned microwave popcorn so please don’t ask me to make that either.

I blast music on occasion.

I love playing music loudly. The genre’s range from country to rap to pop to alternative (usually throwbacks), to Disney and sometimes I throw in some EDM. Be prepared to come home from class or work and hear my music. Also feel free to join in on the mini dance party witch will probably be happening along with the music. It’s quite cathartic! The more, the merrier!!

You’ll see me cry.

If you haven’t already seen my cry, here’s your warning. It’s usually from the stress of midterm week or finals week. I have at least one meltdown per semester, sometimes two. Just make sure you know where that emergency chocolate is and we’ll be good. You could even join me if you wanted to! Just know that I’m an ugly crier.

I'll hide emergency chocolate in the freezer.

Yes, I do this. I do this at home and I’ve done it with both of my former roommates. The chocolate is usually hidden in the freezer. Don’t steal it. It’s an important piece of chocolate. It helps relieve my stress. If I start to cry, make sure you grab that -- it acts almost like a binky. I’ll even keep something hidden for each one of you if you want me to and it will keep you from stealing mine!

If you want to borrow something, just ask.

When I think of girls living together I think of living with my close friends and gaining clothes, shoes, accessories, makeup -- the list goes on. I’m more than willing to share most of my stuff. Nine times out of 10 the answer will be yes. Just please make sure you ask, that’s my only thing. I know you will respect me and my things, so please just ask so I'm aware!

I watch "Rent" once a semester.

To be completely honest with you, the real reason I ever signed up for my Netflix account is because I was having "Rent"withdrawal. I watch the movie once a semester -- usually when I’m looking to de-stress. You’re more than welcome to join me, but I will sing, laugh and cry, and you cannot judge me.

At the end of the day, through all my oddities, I will be there for you guys at 4 a.m. if you need me. I’ll just be a door knock away!

With Love,

Dani Boy

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
