I thank you for teaching me the many skills I needed to be where I am today.

Open Letter to My Senior Year English Teacher

Dear Mrs. Burke,

I want to thank you for making my senior year as great as it was. As much as I dread going to your class on those “timed writing days” and continuously forgot many deadlines you set, it was your class that I always anticipated and looked forward to the most. I don’t think there was a day in your classroom that wasn’t filled with laughter and that’s why it was a feeling of disappointment rather than joy when I walked into B106 and saw a substitute teacher rather than you.

Of all the teachers and people I came across in my four years of high school, you’ve had the greatest impact on my passion for writing, analytically and creatively. You’ve managed to refine my skills in the literature world and the real world and it’s the lessons I learned in your classroom that I will carry with me.

You are the epitome of a great teacher, and I believe that all teachers should look to you on how to be as great of a teacher. You have a love for what you do and it reflects into your interactions and relationships with your students. From the first day of school until the last, I was always comfortable going to you about anything. Whether it was a question I had about an assignment, something that was going on in my life, or just going in your room to work, B106 was always my favorite place to be (except on the rare occasion that you were gone, then it was not so fun).

As I go to college to pursue a communications degree, you can be sure that we will remain in touch and I will probably always seek your insight on many essays I write (even if it’s like my Shakespeare essay and I believe that it’s the best thing to ever be written and you seem to differ on that). I’m not sure that I would want to pursue a communications degree or even be a writer for the Odyssey if I hadn’t had you as a teacher. If you’re an english teacher or any kind of teacher, I encourage you to make the most of being a teacher and build relationships with your students. As a student myself, it is my relationships with teachers that I cherish the most throughout school. I want to thank you again, Mrs. Burke, for making my senior year so great and I look forward to having you as a mentor through life.

With much love,

Alyssa Cornelius

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.
