To Avery,
I know I haven't met you quite yet, but I feel like I already know so much about you. I know you'll be the light of your mothers eyes and the pride and joy of your father. I know you'll be embarrassed by everyone in your new, big, crazy family. I know you'll grow up with the same guidance I received from your Grandpa. And I know that I will cherish you as my first nephew.
There are plenty of things I don't know yet, however.
I don't know the color of your hair. Or your favorite sport. I don't know if you'll grow up to be a doctor, a lawyer, or nomadic guitar player. Hell, I don't even know what kind of cake you'll grow to love. (Actually, if you're like your mother, it'll be any kind of cake.)
But even through all the unknowns and unfathomable amounts of outcomes, it won't matter. It won't matter because of just one good reason. You will always be surrounded by those who love you. You will always have open arms to come home to when you've been gone for too long. No matter if you feel like the world is against you. You have one of the strongest back-up team at your side. Your mother and father are not the only ones lucky to have you join this world.
We all are.
We can't wait to welcome you to this big, wide, crazy world we call home.
With more love than I can express,
Your Uncle Dalton.
