We've all heard the saying "Not all heroes wear capes," and my mom is nothing less than a hero to me. From day one, she's been my rock, my support system, my confidant, my best friend, and most importantly, my hero. I can't explain how many times she has saved me from making the wrong decisions. From what classes I should take next semester to my many fast food cravings, she always has my back.
There aren't enough words to explain how much she means to me and how much I appreciate her helping me through even the darkest of times. In 2012 I was diagnosed with depression after my parents' divorce left my life in shambles. When my father figure decided he didn't want to be in the picture anymore, my mom shined through it all. Among all of the hurtful things that were said and done, she remained strong, unbreakable.
I hope to one day be as strong as my mom. She has empowered me, as well as my three sisters, to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. Although my sisters and I are separated by the twists and turns of growing up, my mom always manages to ensure us that we will always have a place back home.
So let me tell you about my mom. She has the humor of Ellen Degeneres, the generosity of Oprah, and the intelligence of Dr. Phil. I am so lucky to have the relationship I have with my mom. If you ever find someone that empowers you like my mother has empowered my sisters and me, be it a relative, friend, or anyone else, never take them for granted.
Thanks for everything mom.
Because of you, I made it.
