Hey,

This letter is going to be my way of telling you what you are to me in my eyes. You are stubborn, loud, crazy, kind, and everything I can't even describe. I've had to watch you go through heartbreak that killed me, shed tears over friends who won't matter in 10 years, and grow up into this amazing person. You may not understand this, but I would give anything to protect you from any harm this world throws at you. It hurts me to have to let you make your own mistakes, even after I try giving my best advice. It's not so easy being the older sister you know. It involves being someone to look up to, someone who has to watch every move they make, just to ensure that you don't make the same errors I do.

You are also the most infuriating person I know. You know all the right buttons to push to get me going, and I know yours. Those screaming matches we've experienced are moments I will never forget. I want to say sorry if I've ever pushed too far, I know sometimes we say things we don't mean. But that doesn't mean I'll ever love you any less. One day we're going to look back and laugh at all the stupid things we even thought was worth being mad at each other for. For now, I'll put up with the teenage hormones and listen to you yell.

You have the biggest heart and that's part of what I love about you. Time after time I've watched you give second, third, even fourth chances to those that took your love for granted. I will tell you this: there are going to be probably 100 more stupid boys and friends that are going to hurt you. With each of these people you are going to learn something, you're going to learn how to find the people that you should always hold close. One day you will find your people and I'll be here in the meantime to hold your hand and eat ice cream with you.

You are stubborn as hell; I'll even admit that I'm the same way. I think it suits you though, one day that stubbornness will help you in your career, you'll be able to center your determination into creating big and wonderful ideas. I know I can't wait to see what you do in the world, so keep on being stubborn, just as long as you can put up with getting it back.

I promise as your sister I will always be your biggest fan, your cheerleader, and supporter of whatever you want to do in life. I will be here to guide you, but also give you your space if you don't want to hear what I have to say. I'll never leave you and I promise to always love you unconditionally.

Love,

Your Big Sister

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
