An Open Letter To My High School Best Friend
Sydney Blake

Hey best friend,

Man, I can’t believe we are already sophomores in college. We have been friends for so long now, Facebook had to remind us it’s been 6 years! That blows my mind a little bit. I remember back to freshman year and smile at all that we have been through since then.

The first time we met was freshman year. We were in all the same classes except like 2. We actually didn’t become good friends until sophomore year. Back when we both wanted to pursue medical careers. Who knew we would love Grey’s Anatomy so much?? Those were some of my favorite times. We had the kind of friendship that most people never find. We said so many mean things to each other, but all in fun-loving play. You helped me through a really dark time.

I think that was why we became best friends. We had each other’s back during some of the roughest times in our high school career. I know that I helped you some, but you helped me way more than you knew. You made me laugh when all I felt like doing was being sad. You encouraged me to follow God when it otherwise would have been nonexistent. You helped me with some school work in that health class. I got an A in there, I think.

We are going to two different colleges now, we both have bills to pay, and we don’t have time to do much else than to work. I miss you during all that, but I also wish you the most success. It’s so weird to think that two years ago from today, we were sitting in class (probably wishing we could go back to sleep). A year changes things, sometimes for the greater good that we don’t even notice until it already happened

So, all in all, I want to say thank you to my best friend. Because even though we fight sometimes, even though we disagree on some things, even though we rarely have time to see each other, I always know that you’ll be there for me. You will never judge me. And if you do, it won’t be in a way that will hurt me. You will always be there on the sidelines telling me to go pursue my dreams. And for that, I will always be grateful.

Let’s make plans really soon.

I love you, best friend.

Sydney

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

The holiday season is full of stress, debt, and forced conversation. While we rush through the month of December, it's important to take a step back and enjoy the moments before they're gone. Most families love to watch Christmas movies, but these beloved films provide more than entertainment. Here are 10 life lessons that I've learned from the holiday classics we watch every year.

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
