Open Letter To My Future Roommate

We'll be going from strangers to roommates.

In less than a month, I will receive my roommate assignment. Never in my life have I ever moved or shared a room with anyone.

So, to my future roommate...

This will probably be the most awkward introduction I'll ever have. We will go from being complete strangers to living in the same room for the entire year in a mere six weeks. There are so many nerves that come with getting a random roommate assigned off of a five-question survey. I hope that when you get your assignment, you don't judge a book by its cover; there is so much more to a single person than what is posted on social media. Although getting to know someone in such little time is very difficult, I hope that we can get along. I'm not expecting us to be best friends, but friends would be pretty cool.

I hope that we can coordinate well, and I really hope we are the same size and have some awesome clothes. Sharing has never been my thing, but since we will be sharing a room I think we should share clothes too. Does that work for you? I hope you will tell me when I don't match or when I really need to pull myself together, because my mother won't be there to do that. I hope that when I'm a mess you can tell me, but be slightly nice about it. I know I can be a mess. I have never had to share in my life. It's going to be an adjustment. I'm sorry that you will be the first. I promise I will try not to be a slob.

I hope that we can help each other out after a bad day and make each other feel better or celebrate a really good one, maybe even check up on each other to make sure we are alright after a long night. Someone has to always be looking out for you; who knows if we will be each other’s person?

I hope that we don't get in each other's hair between our schedules. Me waking up at 5:45 in the morning three times a week...the last thing I would want to do is wake you up then, or be in the way when one of us has people over. I hope we can be friendly with each other's friends and overall get along pretty well.

About 50 days until move-in!

Sincerely,

Your Future Roommate

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
