An Open Letter To My Best Friend

Dear best friend,

I’ve once seen a quote; I can’t exactly recall it but I know it read something along the lines of “if you’re best friends with someone for over 7 years it is believed you’ll be friends for a lifetime”. We’ve been best friends for over 7 years now, but before then I knew you’d be my best friend for forever. This is a letter to thank you for everything you’ve done for me.

Thank you for helping me grow and shape myself into the person I am today.

Without your support and constructive criticism, I would’ve never been able to understand what flaws I knew I could change and what ones I knew I had to accept. You’ve held my hand through the stages of life I didn’t know I could handle alone.

Thank you for being my post to lean on.

When in need, you’re there. Whether it’s a phone call away or a short drive away you’ve always been there regardless of how far or near you are. You’ll never fail to either give me advice I need to hear or open my eyes to a bigger picture. It’s almost like you know me more than I know myself.

Thank you for only wishing the best for me.

When I want to lay in bed and wallow all day you remind me of the things that make me happy outside of my bed. You offer to accompany me in an adventure you and I both know will lift my spirits. You frequently remind me what my aspirations are when you can see I want to give up. You remind me of the person I am when I can’t even remember myself.

Thank you for accepting me as I am.

Whether I explode or want to bottle myself away, you’ve always accepted me as I am. I make you ride the emotional roller coaster I call my life, but you still always strap yourself in. We fight, everyone does, we have our differences but we’ve always managed to over come those differences within a couple days. You are the positive to my negative.

Thank you for keeping my secrets.

When I have something exciting to announce, I’ll always know you are my number one to confide in. I know that when I have a secret I am just waiting to spill, you’re the person I will tell. And without hesitation, knowing certainly you'd never tell a soul. When I am in trouble and can’t let anyone know, you are the person I will call. Also knowing we will never speak about it again, in hopes we will both forget. You are my confidant.

Thank you for doing life with me.

Whether it’s the 24-hour road trip we took or the late night Netflix sessions everything and anything in between, you’re always there to take it on with me. You listen to my crazy ideas and almost always join me on my crazier ones. I can happily and vividly recall many adventures we took, while others would only shake their head at us.

Sincerely your best friend,

You will forever be my best friend. I thank you for the years we’ve had and excited for the years to come. I was blessed to be graced with a person like you that I can call my person. I will forever be thankful for you, I will never let go of my best friend that’s carried all these traits consistently.
