An Open Letter To My First Love

Thank you for being one of the most important chapters in my life.

Dear First Love,

There is not a day that goes by that I do not think about you or think about the times that we used to share and the memories that we made. I fell in love with not only you, but on top of that I also fell in love with the idea of us being together for the rest of our lives and the story that we could one day tell our children. The story that our children would one day tell our grandchildren and the legacy of pure true and unconditional love that we would leave behind for years to come.

We were going to be proof and inspiration that true love and happiness could still exist in the world. You know more about me than many people do; the good, the bad, and the ugly and you still managed to love me through my flaws. Throughout the twist and turns that we came across we still managed to somehow find our way back to each other.

You changed me for the better by pushing me in times when I couldn’t push myself. You changed my view of the world as well as my view of life itself. You challenged me as well as made me hate you at the same time. I worked ten times harder because you knew that I could make it. You made me laugh, you made me cry, and you sometimes made me want to leave you alone all together. You are the center of my memories because you were my first date, my first kiss, and my first life changing love.

It been a year and a half since we finally split and decided to move on but I still find myself hoping and praying that you are doing well. I pray that you accomplish every goal that you set for yourself, I pray for peace and stability in your life, and I pray that you happen to stumble upon a woman that will not only take care of you but also give you that unconditional love that you search for. That chapter in my life may have ended but the story itself will never change. No matter what you may face in life whether it is positive or negative I will always be there if you need help along the way.

I want to thank you for revealing a part of myself, for teaching me that I will be able to take the lessons that were learned from our chapter and apply them to other chapters in my life to come. Thank you for being there in times when I felt that I did not have anyone that I could lean on but you were always right there with your shoulder waiting. Thank you for instilling drive and ambition in me that I still use whenever I feel myself giving up. Overall, thank you for loving me in a time when I felt that no one else did.

Sincerely,

Your Ex-Girlfriend

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
