Open Letter To My Bff On Another Campus

I wish you were here with me.

Open Letter To My Bff On Another Campus

It’s been hard being away from my best friends who I’ve seen every day at school since kindergarten.

The first few weeks of college without you were weird. I couldn't ask you what the homework was or what was going on with that girl during class. I’ve made other friends, and I can't see you everyday. Here are some things that I want you to keep in mind.

Yes, I am making new friends. I couldn’t get through college without having some new friends. I need someone here on campus to have fun with and complain to.

But you won’t be replaced. You’re completely irreplaceable. We’ve grown up together. You know me inside and out. You’ve been with me through field days and junior high dances and heartbreak and college acceptance letters and talent shows and proms and AP exams. There is no one who can replace who you’ve been to me all these years. They say college is about finding your bridesmaids, but those girls will be an addition to you. You’ll always have a spot by my side.

I’ll forgive you for your other friends. I know you're navigating your way around your first couple of months at college too -- weeding through the friends you make to find the real ones. And I’ll always be jealous of the ones who make the cut, but I’m glad you’re building a support system there. I wish I could meet all your friends to tell them how great you are and that they better appreciate you.

I miss you. I miss you like crazy. It’s weird to live without you. I miss our Starbucks dates and our study nights. I miss feeling walking into your house and feeling loved by your entire family. But thank God for technology because I know you’re only a text or a FaceTime call away when I need to tell you about my very-awkward-encounter-with-that-very-hot-boy or rant about how much homework I have this week.

I’ll always be here to support you. Call me anytime if you need a pick-me-up. I am one of your biggest supporters and I’ll always be here for you. I love you and I want the best for you. I LOVE that you’re finding what you’re passionate about. I love that you get to do what you love. It brings me so much joy.

I can’t wait to see you next. The next time I see you may not be for another 5 months or maybe even more like 9. But anyhow, I’m looking forward to it. I can’t wait to hug you and catch you up on my life and hear all about yours.

I love you forever. Thank you for all you are to me.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
