Open Letter to My Bestfriend

I'm going to miss you in college

To My Best Friend,

I don't know if you already know this, but you are one of my favorite people in the entire world. I am so glad that we met when we did and that we became so close. You know everything about me and have been there for me through thick and thin. Although we are not related by blood, I consider you to be my sister. I would not be who I am today if it wasn't for you so I guess this is my way of saying thank you for being the best friend I could ever ask for and for helping me to become the best version of me that I can be. I love you.

As we both know, I'm leaving for college in less than a couple of weeks which means that we will be an hour and forty-five minutes away from each other. Although we've been apart for periods of time before, I'm afraid that this might be different. I'm not bringing a car to college so my ability to come home and visit for a weekend will be limited. I know that you would come visit me if you had the chance to but I also know that you have your own college course work and that you will more than likely be working on the weekends. I know that we have a strong friendship and that we won't lose contact with each other, but I'm still a little nervous about the time apart.

We have so many great memories together. Driving around town talking about anything and everything that comes to our minds has got to be my favorite thing to do with you. You got me addicted to coffee, and I'm not sure if I want to thank you or punch you for that... (just kidding I love you). You have helped me come to the conclusion that Taco Bell and Sonic are both equally amazing. And for some reason we always make a designated stop at a grocery store, even though there's really nothing for us to do there. Everything's an adventure with you. I don't even think there's a time that we've been together that wasn't fun.

You taught me to be strong, independent and confident. Without you, I don't know where I'd be today. I mean I definitely wouldn't be sitting next to you in your car writing this because I procrastinated about writing this.

Thank you for being my best friend. Thank you for being my unbiological sister. Thank you for letting me vent about all of my problems (big ones and stupid ones). Thank you for making me feel important when you vent to me about your own life. And most of all thank you for being you.

I honestly love you more than I love myself. Please stay in contact with me while we are in college. I can't wait to vent to you about all the good and bad that happens in this first semester.

Love,

Best Friend

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
