Dear Little Brother,

Right now you are probably doing something to annoy me or plotting to do something to annoy me. That is just how things are. You know exactly how to get on every single nerve I have within me. Regardless of all the arguments we get into, I would not give you up for anything. You mean so much to me. You bring so much happiness into my life.

I was an only child for ten years begging Mom and Dad to make a sibling for me. It was lonely, and then one day I got the best news. I was finally going to have a sibling, a baby brother of my very own. Finally, after ten years of waiting and begging I got my brother. I still remember the day you were born and how happy I was to meet you. I was the very first person to hold you, and as I looked down at your sweet face, tears pooled in my eyes. That day changed my life forever.

I am not only your sister. I am your supporter, role model and protector too. We are always there for each other when we need it the most. When Mom and Dad just do not understand what is going on, I am there for you. I am your shoulder to cry on. We stick together. That is what siblings are for.

Someday you are going to get older and start maturing into an amazing young man. You are going to learn things and be tested. I will be there for you through all of it. Even though I cannot always be there for you physically, you can always reach out to me. I will give you advice. You are going to struggle. There will be bad days, and good days also. No matter what though, you can depend on me. When a girl is playing with your heart and you just cannot seem to figure out what to do, I will guide you. You are going to experience failure, but I will be there to let you know that you have to get back up and try again. You cannot let anything get you down. You are in control of your life. We were not raised to give up.

You are getting older every time I see you. Big changes are coming for you soon, but I know you can handle it. You are my little brother, no matter how old you get. Whenever you need me, I will be there. We may not always get along, but at the end of the day we are siblings, and siblings have to be there for one another.

I could have never asked for a more perfect brother. You always know how to make me laugh when I am down. I would not trade you for anything. You have lit up my life since 2007. I am so thankful for you. Do not ever forget how much I care about you.

Life is a journey. A lot of things can happen, but one thing you should always know is that I love you, and I am here for you.

Love,

Your Big Sister

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
