Dear Professor,
It is much more common to see students complain about how awful their professors are. How much homework the professor gives out, how unfair their grading system is, and how little they actually do. You, however are the exception to this.
When I first saw you enter the classroom for the first time, you gave every student a smile, introduced yourself, and started the semester as any other professor would. But for some reason, you were different. I immediately felt like you cared so much more about not only the class, but each and every student sitting in front of you. The passion in your voice as you talked about what you would be teaching us and the enthusiasm you had was truly inspiring. After hearing you talk about what was expected from us, I WANTED to do my absolute best and wanted to make you proud.
As the semester continued, I learned from you. I could not wait to wake up and enter your lecture because every word you said made sense and I learned more from you in 80 minutes than I did entire semesters with other professors. I found myself going to you during office hours just to say hi and chat about current events, class, the lecture, and everything in between.
I found out the other classes you teach and signed up for those as well. After this semester I will have had you three times and will have you one more time before I graduate. I take all your classes because you are the ideal educator and inspire me to become a better student and have taught me invaluable information about the struggles I will face, as well as the pay off in my field of work post-graduation.
I can not even begin to thank you for everything you have done for me and continue to do for me. I don’t have the same relationship with any other professor. The kind of relationship where it’s a norm to say hi every time I see you throughout the day. Or the type of relationship where I know I can go to you with any problem and you’re there for me. You’re my professor, mentor, inspiration, role model, and friend.
Thank you for everything,
William Careri
