An Open Letter To My Boyfriend

Dear Boyfriend,

Two years ago, I would have never thought that we’d be where we are now. I didn’t know that you’d be the man I fell in love with it. I didn’t know that you’d be the one to have my heart. I didn’t know that you would mean so much to me. But honestly, who did? No one, not even us, saw this coming. However, the one thing that I can tell you is that I’m so happy it did. I’m so happy that I randomly came home that one weekend because if I didn’t, this may have never happened. And let me tell you, what we have is something I wouldn’t want to give up.

I’m very thankful to have you in my life and thankful for all that you do for me. I’m thankful that I can be myself around you and that you can be yourself around me. I’m glad I don’t have to worry about dressing up all the time when we hang out because in reality, who really likes to wear real pants? Sweatpants and leggings forever! I like that we can do whatever we want in front of each other and not feel embarrassed at all. And by that, I mean everything and anything. We screenshot the really ugly snapchats that we send to each other, but a majority of our pictures are goofy anyway. I find it so funny when you sit there and have conversations with your cat. However, maybe the only thing I sometimes regret is asking you to fart in front of me (let’s be real, they smell sometimes), but I really wouldn’t have you any other way.

I love all the times we spend together. Whether it’s Sunday and we’re watching the new episode of “The Walking Dead” or doing homework for hours, spending them with you make it all more worthwhile. I love all the little jokes we have together, especially reciting Spongebob numerous times throughout the day. From the very first TownGeorge Corporation to our hit band “You Worthless Pizza” all the way to “The Adventures Of Pail and Shovel: Homies in Space,” I enjoy all the silly times we have together. We’ve basically developed our own language and I wouldn’t trade that for the world. I love when we just drive around aimlessly or just sit somewhere in your car and sing Tom Petty together. These are the times I would never want to have with anyone else.

Thank you for always being there for me. You always know how to make me laugh even when I don’t want to. Every time I’m upset, you always know how to make me feel better by sending me pictures of cats and dogs on Reddit. You always know what to say when I’m upset. Even if you don’t, you know that just hugging me is enough to help. You make me smile on my worst days. Thank you for being one of my top supporters in everything I do. You always push me towards success in it all.

But most importantly, thank you for being my bestfriend. Not many people can say that their best friend is their boyfriend, but I’m so happy I can. Thank you for giving me a positive outlook on life and always being there for me. Thank you for loving me even though I can be stubborn and a pain in the butt. Also, thank you for never giving up on me throughout it all. You’re truly a blessing in my life. I’m truly the luckiest girl in the world.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.

Amidst my hectic college career, I always find time for one thing, even on the busiest weeks: Parks and Recreation. This show has made me laugh and has made me cry, but most of all I have related to this show more than I would like to admit.

Here are some "Parks and Rec" moments that relate to life struggles that just about everyone faces.

April Ludgate from Parks and Recreation is notorious for her "I don't care" attitude. She speaks her mind without caring what anyone thinks of her. Fans love her because she isn't afraid to be herself. April can seem cold and negative, but she's really just fearless and strong-minded. And despite her sometimes harsh words, April truly cares about the people she's closest to. These are all reasons she is the epitome of a college student. April complains whenever she has to do any kind of work, but ends up doing the work anyway. April Ludgate is the ultimate college student spirit animal.

Life is full of twists and turns, but you have to keep going.

Life is all about twist and turns, sideways and which ways. Nothing is permanent, so we should take risks, and chase our dreams. We are taught at a young age many lessons that will follow us into adulthood. What we aren't taught is how to feel, and how we handle those emotions. We just have to figure them out ourselves, and that's not fun. In my 21 years of living, I have come to know that way too many people can't handle emotions, or the fact that not everyone is dead inside like them. When you're like me, and you have zero control over your emotions, it's hard to feel comfortable around people who aren't so in touch with themselves. As much as I would like to feel nothing at times, I've accepted who I am and the fact that I can cry over practically nothing. So, there are some things in life that you just have to do.
