Open Letter To Best Buddies

Dear Best Buddies,

“Best Buddies,” yeah that sounds like a nickname for you and some pals, but that’s not what I’m talking about. I am talking about the organization I have been involved with since high school; the one that builds people’s confidence, creates opportunities to learn and most importantly, creates friendships with students who have intellectual and developmental dissabilities.

I started off just tagging along with some friends to the meetings and getting to know some of the other students in the club. After a couple of times, I started hanging out in the class for kids with disabilities on a regular basis. Little did I know Best Buddies would be my niche, my new home.

Best Buddies pushes my comfort zone, my mindset, my view of the world, and motivates to be my best self.

These are some of the many reasons I am grateful for this club, and for which I give thanks.

I thank Best Buddies, because if it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t have been brought together with my peer buddy, Monterius (aka Montie). Without Montie I wouldn’t be as happy as I am today. Happiness is always put on the back burner, with exams, internships and just trying to get your life together. However, Montie, his classmates and all of the other members of Best Buddies changed that for me.

In fact, I am much more than a friend, I am part of a team, Montie and me, we are role models to each other, personal cheerleaders, and adventurers.

Furthermore, Best Buddies reminds me about the the beauty of the simple things in life. When I am with Montie, we are laughing, eating new foods, playing games, doing things that as we grow up, we don’t make as much time for anymore.

When I am with Montie, or any member of the club, I am enjoying life to the fullest and so are they. Suddenly, that accounting test you have been killing yourself over isn’t important. The boy who didn’t text you back, the pimple on your face, none of that is important. In that moment, all you focus on is being happy because you are surrounded by friends. Friends that are full of love and goodness; there is no judgement, no hate, no worries during that time, just happiness.

To Montie, I couldn’t have asked for a better buddy than you.

Finally, to Best Buddies, thank you for giving me my happiness back.

You are a senior in high school, you have made it to the final year that you have been looking forward to since the first day of freshman year. Whether this has been the worst or best four years of your life, appreciate it. You will never have these times back, you will never be in high school again. It is hard for someone still in high school to wrap their brain around, but there will be a day when you wish you could be in the shoes you're in right now. Here are 15 things I have learned being in college that I wish I knew as a high school senior:

Many people think that this show is the best thing they've ever watched and others won't bother watching it because they know they'll get hooked. And yes, I know many people have written about this show before, but I couldn't resist. I could re-watch every season multiple times to the point where I can almost quote an entire scene. Trust me, once you start "One Tree Hill", you will be hooked. There's way too many reasons to list as to why you'll love this show, and these are just a few.

The first two weeks of classes have come to an end and they have been anything BUT easy. It seems like life has been serving up more bad than good and in all honesty, the only thing you want to do is crawl under your covers and hide from the rest of the world.

Although this seems like the best solution, it is also the easy way out. Take it from the girl who took basically a whole week off from her life because she just could not handle everything that was being thrown at her. This caused her to feel extremely lonely and even more stressed out for being behind in classes that JUST began.

11 Things We Learned From Brooke Davis

"What's more important? What we become or how we become it?"

Brooke Davis

"She was fiercely independent, Brooke Davis. Brilliant, and beautiful, and brave. In two years she had grown more than anyone I had ever known. Brooke Davis is going to change the world someday, and I'm not sure she even knows it." - Lucas Scott, An Unkindness of Ravens

Brooke Davis of the hit show One Tree Hill was the it girl - she had it all, or so we thought. She started out as a stuck-up, shallow, spoiled, head cheerleader who didn't have her life together. She slept around a lot and loved to party - sounds like your typical high school teenager right? Wrong. B. Davis had so much more to offer. Caring, loyal, and outspoken, she has taught us some valuable lessons throughout the 9 seasons that OTH was on the air:
