An Open Letter To My Theater Friends

Theater friends? More like theater family.

An Open Letter To My Theater Friends

Hi All,

You all know how much I miss you and how excited I am to see you this summer.

You guys are different from any other friend group I’ve had, in so many wonderful ways. I was the only theater kid at my school and was a bit nervous about starting to take theater classes on the weekends at a place where I didn’t know anyone, and where most people might be more experienced than I was. I shouldn’t have been nervous, though. All the years I spent going to theater school made me grow as a person in so many different ways, and always with you guys by my side, the wonderful friends I made during this journey.

We’ve gone though so much together, from having awesome and horrible teachers, to learning new skills and getting over our fears. We’ve also had friends who have come and gone, but I know that those of you who are still by my side, even if you’re on the other side of the planet, are going to be my friends forever.

We understand each other, we know that wanting to be an actor is not a game, it involves hard work and dedication, and we have all chosen this path, even if it’s not a normal one that guarantees a good future career. It’s what we love, and although not everyone will understand that, we have each other.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for everything. For not just being my classmates but becoming my theater family. We’ve gone through a lot together and it makes me so happy that even though our theater school days are over and we are all figuring out our next steps in life, we still rely on each other for support and hang out like nothing has changed.

Thank you for being you and being the best. I will see you soon!

Love, Me

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
