An Open Letter to The Man I Love

Thank you for knowing everything about me.

Hey you,

Congrats! You now get to deal with all my ups and downs, my hectic schedule, and rants at 1 am. I have loved others before, but this time, it’s different. You know where I’m ticklish, that I say “shush it” when you’re right, and you know some of my deepest secrets. And yet, you love me too.

Thank you for dealing with my hectic schedule. From working mornings and evenings, sometimes very early and sometimes even very late. To knowing when I’m class, or knowing that I’m always running from one place to another, you deal with the fact that I’m not always available to talk.

Thank you for dealing with all my ups and downs. We all know that girls always have that one week where we are more emotional than other times, but this goes beyond that. You have heard all my great stories about getting a new job, or accomplishing something that I’ve been working on. But you’ve also been there for the bad, for times where I can’t stop crying or things are a little crazy at home. These are the times I’ve needed you the most.

I love that your family has taken me in as their own. I could easily call your mom “mom” or say I love you” to her and no one would bat an eye. Sometimes I show up unbeknownst to your family, and everyone welcomes me with open arms and then asks if I’m staying for dinner. They’re ok if we hang out on the couch for hours on end, or in some city for the whole day. Being loved by your family actually means more than you would think.

Honestly, thank you for knowing every face I make, every giggle, and even the way I carry myself. I’m not sure there is anyone that knows me better than you, and that means the world.

Always,

The girl you love

10 Truths About Being In A Sorority

(For Girls Who Are Interested In Greek Life)

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.
