An Open Letter To The Girls Moving Into My Sorority House After Me
Rachel Bear and Sarah Udelhofen

One hot (and really sweaty) August day, I shoved all of my junk into my car, and my parents’ car, and headed back to school. Pumped for the year to begin and to see my friends again, I was still almost as nervous as I was when I moved to college for the first time. I was moving into my sorority house. It seems daunting, I know. But, believe me, when I say that I wouldn’t trade anything in the world for the time I spent living here.

I hope you embrace all that Alpha Gamma Delta is and can be. Open yourself up to meeting new people and making new friends. You will build relationships with your new housemates, and create bonds you will never be able to break. Because at the end of the day, these girls will be there for you when you feel like you have no one to go to. They will let you cry and cry and most of the time, they are the only ones who can make you feel better. These girls will be there for you when you hit rock bottom and don’t know how to fix things. They will bring you water and bread on those nights when you come home a little too intoxicated, they will leave at midnight to go buy you a coke from McDonald’s when you’re trying to write a 10-page paper but can’t stay awake. They will laugh with you, and sometimes at you, they will cry with you, and for you, and they will be the first ones to tell you that your outfit doesn’t match. They will know the real you, and though that may seem scary, I promise you they’ll love you anyway.

Under all of the new renovations are timeless and treasured traditions that have been upheld for over a century. Treasure each movie night in the rec room and always make sure you don’t miss Friday brunch when Chef Jen makes pancakes as big as your head. Never say no to a late night ice cream run, and please don’t be afraid to sleep in the dormer; it’s some of the best sleep you’ll get during your time in college. If you have to pull an all-nighter, I can guarantee someone else will sit with you in misery at 3am when you two are the only ones awake and functioning. Know that all of the tears, all of the stress, all of the bad days, will one day seem insignificant.

The two years you will spend under this roof will make you the most "you" you have ever been, so embrace it. Remember that you are a part of a legacy, there were so many women before you who walked these halls, and there will be so many more after your time. So take these years and make them the best of your life. Be a part of the 100+ year legacy.

To the pledge class of 2015 and all those PCs to come after, take care of 1409 N. Main St. Promise me that you will not take your time spent in this house for granted, because I can assure you, it goes by faster than you can possibly understand.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
