To Thanksgiving--
Hey there, how are you? I know it's been a while (about eleven months now?! Wow how time flies...). I'm sorry I haven't kept up, I always promise that I never forget about you but then of course Christmas comes to visit and then my birthday (an obnoxious fella but always a good time) shows up and by that time it's February and all fond thoughts of your turkey goodness and family loving have faded off into the past.
It is easy to feel subpar in between the two super holidays of America. Halloween is always the crowd pleaser. Super packs of all your favorite candy, adorable dog costumes and of course, PUMPKIN PATCHES. It's a really good time, you know this. Then of course there is Christmas aka "the most wonderful time of the year". Think jingle bells, hot cocoa and a fat man in velvet. What isn't there to love?
Here is the thing though. Thanksgiving, you are not forgotten. At least not by me. I appreciate you for all your deliciousness. With Halloween comes the pressure to find the perfect costume (which is both original and risqué, that's a lot to ask!). But with you there is never any pressure to look perfect. I can wear my favorite leggings under a dress so once I've consumed as much food as my body could hold (and then some) I can let my stomach full of stuffing bulge out as far as it desires. With Christmas the expectation of exciting presents is always a bit of a let down. The feeling I get sitting under the Christmas tree come Christmas morning is never as satisfying as what I imagine. If you ask me? It's all pretty overrated. Yet with you, I always know what to expect. Grandma's turkey, Mom's stuffing, my Aunty's pie, the comfort of all my cousins around me, and the occasional sip of wine my parents will slip me.
Thanksgiving, you don't pressure or deceive or hurt.
No Thanksgiving you bring families together and then you feed us. The two most important things right there, family and FOOD.
So cheers to you Thanksgiving. I promise I didn't forget about you and next year I promise to write more often. Don't ever thing you are forgotten, because even if other people get twisted up in the whirlwind which is Halloween and Christmas, I will always love you (and your delicious food.)
See you in a few weeks.
