An Open Letter To The Start Of Senior Year

An Open Letter To The Start Of Senior Year
Tori Baldwin

Dear Senior Year,

We finally meet! I’ve heard about you for such a long time but I never imagined you’d actually get here. Freshman Year told me that you would take forever to arrive and not to worry about you. Sophomore year spoke very highly of your qualifications. Junior Year said I should be terrified of you and did everything in his power to try to prevent your arrival (He was not the best to keep as company). I’ve heard you are pretty awesome from most people, but I’ve also heard that you are pretty hard to work with. So far you have brought me some great friendships and experiences and we have not even known each other that long.

I hope that we can continue to get along. I know you are going to start throwing some pretty scary stuff at me, cue graduation music. But right now I just want to savor every moment you bring. I hope you will be patient with me because this is the year that I am stopping and smelling the roses! I want to squeeze in every little last thing I can. All the late nights with friends, the midnight fast food runs, the parties at the student union, and even the classes. I’m not going to be too eager to let go of these so you are just going to have to stay with me for a while!

If you do not mind, I’d like for you to teach me to appreciate all that is around me and all the time I’ve had at college. There have definitely been some good times and some bad times, but they have all been worth it. I hope you will show me new things and help me to branch out of my comfort zone. After all, this is the time to make a difference!

Do you mind preparing me for the future and all that it entails? I would really like to learn to let go of the negative energy and embrace with open arms all the positive energy. I would also like to learn how to tell true friends from the people that are not so true behind my back. This is important for when I hit the real world because we all need a support team around us! I feel like you are the perfect person for this job of revealing so much to me.

You have taught so many people such wonderful things and I cannot wait to spend these next two semesters with you. I promise I will always make time on my calendar for you and everything you have to offe. I will never take you for granted, because I know you only come around once in this particular season of life. If I ever do start forgetting about how important you are, I hope I will have people around me who will remind me why you are visiting and what you mean to me. You are everything I have been working toward! I just know we are going to be the best of friends and work together really well. I’m only a few days in and I already adore you!

Sincerely,

Tori

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
