An Open Letter To My Sorority Sister Who Inspires Me

Dear sweet sister of mine,

It may be that we aren't the best of friends. Sure, our paths have crossed at some point during our time in the chapter, but maybe it's just every few days or so. Maybe you're not the first person I call when I want to chat, or when something goes wrong, and you may not be the only person I hang out with on the weekends. We're the pair that always smiles and laughs when they see each other. We're the pair that can pick up right where we left off after not talking for weeks. We're the pair that maybe has never had super deep conversations, but it's like we already know each other so well. So, maybe it's weird to say this if we aren't best friends. Maybe it's weird to admit this if we aren't super close. But, I just really want you to know one thing:

You inspire me.

Your kindness to others does not go unnoticed. Your positivity within even the toughest situations is what motivates me to keep going. Your unfailing love for our group of sisters makes me want to stay when things get hard. When you talk, its never to bring someone else down. Your words are always used to lighten a situation or to boost someone else up. You are supportive of even the most outlandish ideas and you always bring a new dose of your perspective to the table. You're the first to stand up for the underdog and the last to shoot down a good proposal. You're honest, open, and always working hard to get your job in the chapter done.

You're the kind of sister than anyone could call on for help. The model sister that we all should strive to be, always reminding us like a wise elder that when we think things are bad--it could always be worse. Always reminding us to keep moving forward, to grow as sisters--as women.

You're more than just a sister or a member of our organization. You are a friend; a kindred spirit. I don't have a real sister, but you're the kind of person that acts like a big sister to everyone. Your desire to make others smile inspires me to be a better person. It makes me want to always see the good light in the darkest times. It makes me want to forgive, forget and move on from the frustrating situations. The good feelings that you leave me with, motivate me to leave our chapter better than when I found it.

How can I ever thank this sorority for bringing me to a soul like yours? So kind, pure and nonjudgmental. People like you are few and far between, but I want to say, thank you. When I feel like giving up, I always think of you, your kind words, your positive vibes and your unfailing love for your friends and sisters. No one is perfect, but you're a wonderful example of what it means to be a sister and a leader, and I am forever thankful to know you!

Love,

Your inspired sister.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.

What's up Asshat,

I've composed a list of things that I wish upon you, and they're harsh and cruel. These things are things that I wouldn't wish upon my worst of enemies, not even that Starbuck's barista who always screws up my order, not even him. You fall into a whole other category of hate. You surpass Starbucks barista. Congratulations, I'm actually a pretty nice person, making you worthy of every single bit of torture I wish upon you. What are these things I wish upon you you might ask?
