For a lot of you, sports have always been there. Conditioning, selling clothes, practice, games, pictures, etc. you’ve always been busy. You never thought that this day would come. The day that you wouldn’t have practice or games immediately after school, the day that you won’t see your teammates every day of your life, the day where you don’t need to think about the mechanics you need to fix.
For a lot of you, this is the end of the road. Senior night will bring a lot of emotions. Whether you’re thinking about your very first game, or the best play you’ve ever had. A lot of you are like me, where you can’t continue your sports career in college because of an injury, or too much time commitment. What is it going to feel like to lace up your cleats for the last time? What is it going to feel like to not have the one thing you always had? These days are your best days, so hold on to them and don’t let go.
High school came and went all too fast. Four years of Varsity sports, letterman jackets and pep rallies. So, now what happens? I know it seems scary, and I know you’re leaving your “glory days” behind you. Sports were a thing in your life for so long, and now it’s time to turn the page to a new chapter. For those of you attending college, you will experience a whole new world. Life will seem strange, and somewhat empty. But you meet people, and get involved in so many different clubs, or even get a job.
Sports will always be one of the best aspects of your life. When you think of high school you’ll tell those stories about your rivalry games, and that season you hit .400. Whether you want to think about it or not there is a life after you step off the field or court for the last time.
There will be several of you that will actually play in college, and that’s an amazing opportunity. Know that your former teammates will be cheering you on because of the family you created all of those years ago. Hold on to your sports days for as long as you can, because once you realize those days are gone you won’t get them back.
