An Open Letter To My Roommate

Dear Roommate,

When I asked you to be my roommate, I barely knew you. I knew what you looked like and that you were a rising college freshman who was going to the Honors College at the College of Charleston. There's something nerve-racking about agreeing to live with someone that you don't really know, because there are so many things that can go wrong. But, I was wrong for any nervousness that I had, because for every one thing that could've gone wrong, three things went right. Little did I know that we would become inseparable and spend most of our time outside of class together, even though we already see each other every night.

Thank you for making memories with me that we laugh about on a daily basis. Whether it's walking to the dining hall, getting food in the middle of the night or just sitting in our room doing homework, we always find something to do that we will remember for the years to come.

Thank you for putting up with my dorky self. I know that I can be a handful sometimes, and so I sincerely do thank you for always being completely patient with me. You've basically memorized my schedule and shoved me out the door in the mornings or when I need to be somewhere, and I love how you aren't afraid to play "mom" sometimes.

Thank you for making me laugh. Whether it's you tripping over my backpack and falling backwards onto the tile floor or getting into the closet, refusing to get out and then falling asleep in there for half an hour, you always find ways to make me laugh harder than I ever have before. The way you talk in your sleep and your unhealthy obsession with popcorn also never fails to entertain me.

Thank you for always being someone who I can pour my heart out to with complete comfort. Even when I'm at my worst, you're always there with endless hugs and advice. I'm so appreciative that I can tell you the same story over and over again when something is stressing me out, and you'll listen every time and give me your complete attention. I can't even begin to tell you how much I appreciate your advice, because you think straight for me when I'm too emotional to even do anything.

Lastly, thank you for having my back. You always support me, defend me and stay by my side. I can't wait for the next three years with you and for a lifetime of friendship.

Love you always,

Delayne

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.
