An Open Letter To My Parents

Just small examples of how I feel loved by them.

An Open Letter To My Parents

My parents are pretty awesome. I will always be the first to admit that God blessed me with some of the greatest parents on earth. I understand that not everyone gets to say this, and I don't take this lightly. In my humble opinion, my parents did parenting right. They instilled just enough fear in my sister and I that we would never go too wayward, but they were always compassionate and open enough to where we knew we could always run to them with any and everything. They're cool, hip, and overall fun to be around.

Aside from the surface level aspects about them that I love, here are a few reasons why I'm glad to call them mine.

First, they are a never ending source of support. Through each and every endeavor my sister and I have, they are there every step of the way to remind us that we are competent and capable of completing and achieving everything we have dreamed of. Not only this, but they lead by example by continuing their education and showing us what it means to be a leader of people.

Next, as you could guess, they're present. I am so thankful for this. In my criminology class, I am learning what happens to children whose parents aren't around and don't care for them. That makes me even more grateful for mine because I know that my life could be lot different if either one of them weren't present . I will never forget my dad sitting in on my first ever speech and debate tournaments, recording my performances and telling me how I could improve. Also, you've never seen a mother like mine cheer from the sidelines of soccer games and track meets.

These things that they do for me and so many more are just small examples of how I feel loved by them. They have always gone out of their way to sacrifice for my sister and I. They continually put us in positions where we are able to better ourselves and because of that, we are able to thrive wherever we set our feet.

My parents have done and continue to do so much for me, and I cannot wait to return the gesture.

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
