Dear Reckless Drivers of the Open Road,
This is not a letter aimed to release all of my frustrations at the dare devil drivers that roam the streets. Nor is this to criticize mistakes of those drivers because admit it or not we’ve all ran a stop sign or two. Rather this is a letter here to remind those drivers who don’t pay attention what they could cause.
Imagine you are driving to work after just dropping off your kids to school, kissing your spouse goodbye, and petting your dog full of puppy love. On the way to work, you pass through a school zone and slow down to obey the speed limit. After stopping for a group of children walking across the street all of a sudden you look into the rear view mirror and see a car coming fast from behind you. In an instant…you realize there is trouble. You hear a loud screeching and a ringing in your ears after flinging forward and knocking your head on the steering wheel. The driver that just ran into you from behind was texting and driving clearly not paying attention to the road.
If you think that this can’t happen to you, keep reading because you may be at risk of becoming just like the culprit of this accident. Due to the lapse of judgement of the driver who caused this unfortunate crash, now the victim who stopped for the children won’t make it home to their family, won’t kiss their spouse again, will never see their loving pup. This may seem like a stretch but the reality of it is certainly a possibility. Everyday car accidents happen that can be prevented all just by becoming aware.
Be aware of the drivers around you, be aware of the environment around you, and most of all be aware of yourself while you are driving. This may seem like a public service announcement sponsored by some company to drive safe but guess what, it is not. This was sparked by the fact that I almost got hit on the way home after a day at work and I easily could have not made it home because of that. Sometimes it’s easy to put the blame on someone else or bend driving rules because we think that “oh it’s only for this one time”. Well we have to remember, one time is all it takes.
Sincerely,
A driver who hopes that everyone on the road continues to be safe and make it home.
