I will first begin with saying I am sorry.
I am sorry that some actions by other police officers have created a negative connotation toward the majority of police officers.
I will also say that I am a firm believer that there are bad people in every occupation imaginable, and I am sorry that some people’s actions have titled all bad, because that is simply untrue.
So to the hundreds of thousands of good, honest, and courageous police officers out there, I thank you.
I thank you for putting on your uniform every single day and putting your life on the line for me to be able to live safely.
I thank you for not giving up on society even though it seems like society has given up on you.
I thank you for keeping your community, your state, and your country safe.
I thank you for taking the negativity with a grain of salt and continuing to serve and protect your fellow citizens, even though some of your fellow citizens don’t want to protect you.
I am fortunate and thankful for the bravery and the courage that you demonstrate.
However, I am not an average person thanking you. I am a police officer's daughter, and I have experienced the other side of knowing a police officer besides traffic stops and dialing 911 when I need help.
Although my dad gets plenty of my own form of 911 calls, like when I got into my first car accident, or when I suffered my first broken heart, my dad was there.
This being said, I know firsthand that you are a person. You are dads, moms, daughters, sons, aunts, uncles, grandfathers, and grandmothers; you are no different from everyone else. You simply are putting on a uniform, and the only thing keeping you safe is the grace of God and a bulletproof vest. You face life-threatening situations every single day and you are risking your life so we can live ours.
I am thankful for being given the opportunity to call a police officer my dad. I am thankful that I am able to see the side of police officers that not a lot of people get to see.
And with that said, I know that, at times, your job may be frightening. You see things that the average person couldn’t imagine seeing, and you are put in awful situations and forced to make fast decisions. I have been given the opportunity to experience a fear similar to what you experience, because growing up with my dad having the same career as you has been very terrifying and worrisome. I can say that I am proud of you. I pray for you, and I respect you.
You are respected and your line of work is respected too.
You are loved and all you do does not go unnoticed.
Continue being courageous and continue keeping us safe and the bad guys off the streets.
Don’t be scared and don’t fear for your life, because if you have faith in God, God will have faith in you.
Thank you for being a police officer.
Sincerely,
The girl who prays every single night for all brothers and sisters in blues' saftey.
