Social media used to just be about sharing life events. Pictures from weddings, graduations, and nights out would fill news feeds. However, in the last few years social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter are full of opinions.

I cannot look at social media without seeing people’s thoughts on the election, social issues, and everything in between.

I think that people over sharing their thoughts takes the fun out of social media. Most people are on Facebook and Twitter to see what their friends and people they used to know have been up to, not to hear how people are offended about something a politician said.

I do not think some people realize what their followers really think when they read their extremely long statuses. Learning some people's opinions makes me want to unfollow them.

Also, none of these three paragraph statuses cause people to change their opinions, they just start fights. Some people are abusing social media by forcing their opinions onto their followers. It is incredibly ironic that many people complain on social media about Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton and what they believe, yet their supporters are not any better. The worst part is that people seem to be posting just for the sake of posting. They do not have facts or examples to support their opinions and when they receive negative comments they prove that they do not have a sound argument, they resort to personal attacks against people that do not share their beliefs.

Instagram and Snapchat have replaced Facebook and Twitter for me because I like to look at lighthearted pictures of people's lives. No one is sharing their political views along with the dog filter on Snapchat. No one is sharing their thoughts on the economy to accompany their Instagram of their coffee cup. Posts on social media should be personal. Rather than sharing your own thoughts on current events, post about your new pet, a vacation, or a weekend with your friends.

I strongly believe that we should all exercise our right to free speech. But personally, it has gotten old constantly seeing people post their opinions on social media without considering the fact that they have followers with different opinions. Too many people are posting without thinking of the amount of people that will see it and how many friends and followers they could lose because of it. Those that insist on posting their thoughts should at least make sure they have facts to back them up and deal with the angry comments that may come or being unfollowed.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.
