Dear Nurses.
I know it is your job to care and serve others in their most vulnerable states, but it still says a lot about you that you've chosen to have this job, but not everyone would. I was in the hospital last month because of a concussion, seizure and broken femur and was amazed by the care I received. The nurses helped me bathe, dress and use the restroom, but later in the day were still able to talk to me about my classes and respect me like a normal college student. I don't know how many people would be to do that for a complete stranger, but you are able to see a human in need of love and gentle care behind whatever that human's medical condition may be.
In your profession, you are a blessing to so many men, women, children and their families. People in your profession take care of newborn babies to 100 year olds and everyone in between. The nurses checked in on me regularly while I was in the hospital, and were willing to help me with whatever I needed while I was in the hospital. You perform tasks as important as giving someone their medications, removing stitches and taking blood pressures, and tasks as small as picking something off the floor for a patient so he or she does not have to bend over. You take meticulous notes on a patient's pain level, appetite and even bowel movements. You stand up for your patients and offer suggestions to doctors when you see something that can be improved in a patient's care.
On a more personal level, you provide friendship and comfort to patients and their families on their most difficult days. Many of you go above and beyond in providing comfort and encouragement to your patients. I know you probably don't get thanked enough, so I just wanted to thank every nurse for following his or her calling.
Thanks again,
A Blessed Patient
