Dear Millennials who can finally vote,
We did it. We're finally at election season. We can vote! But, unfortunately, we have been stuck with two of the most extreme candidates. This election season has been a nightmare for us in terms of trying to pick a candidate because in the most common term possible, we have been assigned to pick between the "lesser of two evils". All we see on social media and news broadcasts are articles and propaganda against the other party. Of course it matters which candidate does what in the eyes of the government and the everyday American citizen, but we shouldn't look at their personal lives a determine our vote from their irresponsible actions alone. In this day and age (and especially in this election season) we have to ask ourselves "Do we even know what each side stands for, or do we just pick whoever is more popular in our area?".
Well, let us take into hypothetical consideration that we don't know which candidate stands for what. So, let us explore into the top candidate from each party, and see who stands where.
First off is the Democratic Party. The Presidential candidate for the Democratic Party is Hillary Clinton. Her stance on immigration is that she wants to keep it how Obama has set it; meaning, she is pushing to end family detention and to help more foreign people become naturalized. In terms of abortion, she believe that the government has no say in what women do for their help and is open to keep abortion legalized, labeling her as pro choice. She also wants to make sure that citizens are safe by pressing on the issue of gun control. Her stance on foreign policy basically states that she is all for taking down ISIS, we should never negotiate to terrorists, and that Israel's security should remain non-negotiable. Finally, she believes that people who make more money should pay more taxes to the government.
Next on the list is the Republican Party. Donald Trump represents the Republican Party. His stance on immigration is that all illegals should be deported and granted citizenship before planting them here and giving them jobs. Trump hasn't talked much about his Abortion stance other than stating that he is pro life. Trump believes in easing on gun control, as long as citizens have gone through the proper training and have the proper licensing. Trump doesn't stand for, nor does he plan on negotiating with terrorists. Trump believes that in office, he will eliminate job killing proficiencies and have massive tax killing reform and simplification.
Now, I know there is a Libertarian Party, but unfortunately, I do not know who the candidate is for the party as much as I try to understand. But, the Libertarian Party does their best to stand in the middle of the Democratic and Republican Parties. I know that Gary Johnson is one of the primaries, but I honestly couldn't find enough about him to write a paragraph for what he stands on, so Google him at your own will (or for crying out loud, watch the news).
So, if you're asking yourself "who do I choose for this coming election?", the answer is simply go with your conscience. The reason why we are privileged to be an American is because we have the right to vote! We have the right to express ourselves in who we vote for and what we believe in! Now, this does not give us an excuse to shame someone else on who they vote for because they aren't voting for who we want in office! That is not the point of an election. The point of an election is for us to practice our First Amendment (or freedom of speech if you fell asleep in Government class). So, the point of this letter is vote your conscience. Vote for whoever you think is the best candidate. And if you don't think someone is the perfect candidate, understand that no one is going to be the perfect candidate. Go with who you think would be best. Not voting when you have the right to is a vote for the other candidate. Exercise your right to vote. By doing that, you're doing our country a favor.
Sincerely,
Nathan.
