An Open Letter To My Nanny Kids

You guys have no clue how much y'all mean to me.

An Open Letter To My Nanny Kids
Carly Bandy

To my wonderful kids that I nanny,

Who knew that when I took this job that you all would end up making such an impact on my life? Seriously though, I didn't even think about all the good that could come from spending the majority of my time with you guys. I don't tell you guys enough how much I love y'all and how much y'all actually mean to me so I figured it was about time.

Every single day you guys get in the car with a smile on your face and a story to tell. You confide in me, ask me for advice and tell me all the gossip of your grade. I never thought that I would enjoy hearing so much about elementary, middle and high school, until now. I look forward to the moments that we spend together in the car talking about boys, the drama and everything else going on in your lives. Not only does it give me a good laugh but an opportunity to share insight and wisdom.

Who knew that this job wouldn't actually feel like work because I would end up loving y'all so much? You three are like younger siblings to me and I love you all so dearly. You have taught me so much about life and what it means to be a positive role model.

I spend the majority of my days with y'all and it don't mind it at all. You've become some of my best friends. I tell y'all just about everything and you're mature enough to understand. You have my back when boys are dumb and always find a way to make me feel like a million bucks. Who would have thought that my nanny kids would be able to do that for me? Y'all love me unconditionally and accept me for my goofy self.

Long story short -- I love y'all more than y'all will ever know. You mean so much to me and I have so much fun when we spend time together! I'm thankful our paths crossed and I get to watch you guys grow up. From the non stop jokes, dance parties in the car to the serious life talks -- I wouldn't trade it for anything. And don't worry, you guys will all have a part in my wedding one day, like you have made me promise.

Here's to many more carpools, drop offs at practices, mall trips, lunches and our heart-to-heart talks. And always remember, even when I have to grow up and be a real adult who has a full time job, I'm just a phone call away and a short drive from coming to your rescue!

Love,

'Your driver'

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
