An Open Letter To Myself, You Are You.

And that is okay.

Dear Me,

You are you for a reason. And don't think for one second that that is not okay.

Everyone is different. We all have different views on different things, we all like different kinds of foods, we are all not going to have the same amount of drive or ambition, we are not all built the same. And that is okay.

I know you think that sometimes you are at places that you don't belong, or that you should be somewhere else. You always second guess your decisions because you don't know what is right or what is wrong. You can be lost sometimes. But just know, you are you.

You will find people you will click with, and you will not know how to feel about it. You will find people that you necessarily aren't fond of, but will continue to keep them around because they keep you company. You will find someone who you care for so much, but are not sure how they feel back. But I promise, your people are closer than you think. They are the ones who care for you, support you and love you more than you can even realize yourself. They are there for you because you are YOU.

And if people don't like your past, what you stand for, your personality, your goals... GET RID OF THEM. You need to learn that negativity is the worst thing for yourself. You need to only keep the people who love you for every single aspect of you. YOU DO NOT CHANGE FOR ANYONE. You hear me?

Everything happens for a reason, right? Every bump in the road, every mistake you made, every person you meet, every choice you make... they all happened for a reason. Whether you know it yet or not. All of these things help define who you are. You can't be the person you are right now without all the things that you have overcome. That is why you must always look forward. You must always look ahead. Because the best version you is still to come.

I know you struggle with things. You don't know how to handle situations, you don't always stand your ground. But you need to learn that you will only go downhill if you don't stand up for yourself. You deserve all the best things in life. You deserve the world, and whatever is holding you back from that, you need to move on from it because you need to be you. You should never be held down.

In the end of all these sporadic thoughts, you just need to be you. Every choice, mistake, the people you meet, goals you achieve... it defines you. Don't ever for a second think that it is not okay to be you.

Because you are someone no one else will ever be. And that is truly amazing.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that.
