An Open Letter To Myself As I Begin Senior Year

I cannot believe this is the last one.

An Open Letter To Myself As I Begin Senior Year

Dear Me,

It feels as if you just moved into your freshman dorm, and here we are, beginning senior year. You have been through the ups and downs of finding out what you really want to major in, finding your home in your sorority, developing lifelong friendships, and finding out who you truly are. Freshman year was a breeze. You ate too much hibachi and too many chicken fingers at the dining hall, but it was definitely worth it, as you now know what it is like to have to prepare your own meals. Sophomore and junior year flew by. I hope you take advantage of every moment during your senior year because it will go by quicker than any other year so far. I hope you remember that studying is important, but also that sometimes you need to put the books down, and spend time with the friends you have grown to love over these past three years. 365 days from now you and your friends will either be preparing for grad school or finding jobs in various locations around the world. Lean on them as you prepare for adult life.

I hope you do not stress about life too much, as you know everything will work out in the long run. I hope that you go back to the dining hall one night, and go to your favorite freshman bar. I hope you hit all of you favorite college restaurants too many times. I hope you attend every football game, and just soak in the college atmosphere. You will revisit, but it will never truly be the same. These are the days that you are going to talk about for the rest of your life, and you have one more go at creating stories that you will forever tell. I hope you know that it is okay to not completely have your life together right now. As Elle Woods has reminded us, “You must always have faith in yourself.” People are going to constantly ask you what you plan to do with your life, when you are getting married, when you are going to get a boyfriend, or when you are going to start paying your own bills. Just take a deep breath, real life is coming, but you still have two semesters of the good years. Love yourself. Be confident. Continue to learn more about you. Pray. Remember it will all be OK.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
