A Letter to my Big

Dear Big,

From the moment you were assigned to me as my bid day buddy I knew you were the one. You are the Christina to my Meredith, the Serena to my Blair. You are the one for me. For most girls finding their Big is a frustrating process. You don't know if they want you back or if it is okay to ask them what they are feeling. Most girls aren't as lucky as we are. The second week of school we met up after our 9 AMs and sat outside of Atkinson's Hall and decided to be Big and Little. The weeks to come were filled with breakfast dates, sleepovers and sitting upstairs talking while everyone else was getting their party on in the living room downstairs.

It's funny because they say, "When you know, you know," frequently that applies just to marriage, but honestly, I feel like it perfectly describes our situation. I feel like finding you to be my big was one of the most exciting moments of my freshman year, so far. Waiting for Big/Little Reveal and to officially be a member of your family felt like an eternity. When Big/Little finally arrived you really went above and beyond each day. From the Sunday before when you decorated my door with my face, to the excessive amounts of cookies and Reese's cups, to the lion costume you made me wear for Reveal you really out did yourself.

The day of Reveal all I could think about was going to the house, picking up my costume and running out to you and my new family members. Walking over to the house in my velvet lion costume definitely caused some people to stare on campus, but you know what at least I got to do it with my sisters. That's one of the best things about being in a sorority, even if you look like a complete doofus you can't feel weird because you're doing it with your sisters. When we finally lined up in our order I was the first to run out. The wait was finally over, we were family.

Thank you, for always being there for me. I am so happy that Jesus, Delta Zeta, and I guess Kennesaw Mountain High School for bringing you to me. I'm so pumped to call you my Big. In high school, if someone had told me that you were going to my Big I probably would have laughed, but we are perfect for each other. I feel bad for other people when we are around each other. I am so glad I found someone who shares my love of crafts and awkward dancing. You are my best friend and I wouldn't trade you for food or money.

Love,

Your Little

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
