Take it all in. Make as many friends as you can. Go to every football game you can. These are the things I told you as you sat wide eyed watching me get ready for my graduation party. With high school behind me, my bags packed, and my plans for spending my summer in Statesboro confirmed, I felt as though I had everything figured out. I didn't. Honestly, I was nervous. I told you every tip I had to surviving high school, and after almost a full year in college I've learned more than I ever thought I would. So, baby sister, knowing you have a few years until college, read what you will because this is what I have to share, so far.
Keep an open mind when it comes to joining a sorority.
Greek life is so much more than what it seems. It has given me so many opportunities, one being the opportunity to write for the Odyssey. Put all the stereotypes and opinions of others out of your head. Rush each house, and you'll realize where you belong, and if you allow it to happen, chances are you'll meet your best friends.
You will meet mean people.
You will meet someone who has you asking yourself why they would treat someone the way they did. You will meet someone whom you think you have come to know, and they end up showing you their true colors. You'll meet someone who gives you the urge to throw your Lilly planner straight at them. Don't let them change you; you're better off without them.
You will have to learn your way around the campus.
All the buildings might look the same, and all the classrooms will look the same. Calmly look at your schedule, and ask someone for help if you need it. Better yet, ask a cute boy because, who knows, you might make a new friend.
Remember to call Mom and Dad.
They love you and want to hear from you. The more often you call, the less they'll assume it's only for money.
Well, baby sis, college will be the best time of your life if you let it be. Please remember to always thank a pledge when he picks you up and, more importantly, if a guy can't hold the door for you, don't let him hold your attention.
You got this!
Xoxo,
The one you look up to (most of the time)
