It’s been years since my first dance class, but I still remember your bright smile and kind voice inviting me into the small, mirrored room. From that first class to today, you have been my person. You taught me that you don’t have to be the best, as long as you love what you are doing. You taught me practice may not make perfect, but it comes pretty close to it. You showed me how to be the best person that I could be and that people will love me for that.
You taught me that age does not matter, the girl five years your senior could be your very best friend. Your friend group could range from freshmen in high school, to college students. You helped me see the light at the end of the tunnel and not all things must come to an end. Even years after graduating high school, you always welcome me with open arms and an open dance studio. Always texting and emailing me to make sure I’m doing well and pestering me about coming home soon. Being at your dance studio made me believe in the goodness of people.
From the most serious of dances, to the silliest of performances, you made me understand the importance of having fun. Through all those late nights at the studio you showed me how dedication and passion will always show in your performance. From leotards, to tutus, to bows. and top hats. You added to my closet and future Halloween costumes. You helped me perfect my turns, my kicks, my buffalos and my time steps. You shared your love of choreographing with me, and helped me learn how to teach small, eager, children. You made me understand the art of patience, especially when it comes to children. You showed me your side of the situation and how difficult, yet fulfilling it truly is.
I thank you, for your dedication to not only my dance education, but my life education. Thank you, for always being there for me. My smile and eagerness to share it with others is all thanks to you. Thank you, for being my teacher and my best friend.
