An Open Letter To My Mommy And Daddy

Dear Mom and Dad,

I want to start off by saying thank you. Thank you for all the sacrifices you have both made just give me a happy life. Thank you for always loving me no matter what the mistakes I have made in life. Thank you for those random twenty dollar bills you would give me so I could go out with friends. Thank you for dropping whatever you were doing just to rush to my side when it came to all of those panic attacks I would have. Thank you for the random little gifts you both would give me for no special occasion. Thank you for raising me in a home that is centered around the Lord.

Thank you for forming me into the person that I am today. If it were not for all of those late night life lessons, then I do not know who I would be today. It may not seem like it but you both have taught me so much about life that I am able to use from now until I grow old and teach my kids.

Thank you for teaching me right from wrong. Thank you for grounding me and sending me to my room whenever I back talked to you both or did something wrong. Thank you for teaching me how to grow and make mistakes so that I can later learn from them. Thank you for not letting my mistakes define who I am. Thank you for letting me express my thoughts and feelings. Thank you for always sticking up for me no matter what and for never being afraid to tell me if I am wrong. Thank you for telling me all of your stories growing up so I can learn from them. Thank you for not telling me what I want to hear instead of what I need to hear. Thank you for teaching me what it is like to be an adult and thank you for letting me be a kid every now and than.

Thank you for making me your first priority in life. Thank you for being my number one fans. Thank you for never missing one recital or one game. Thank you for encouraging me and always letting me do what I love. Thank you for pushing me out my of comfort zone when I am afraid. Thank you for cuddling with me and letting me cry on your shoulder when I had a bad day. Thank you for letting me chase my dreams and always believing in me no matter what.

Thank you for always making me laugh. Thank you for those funny text messages when I am feeling down or just to give me a good laugh. Thank you for always joking with me and laughing with me. Thank you both for the constant smile on my face and thank you for always making sure it stays there. Thank you for the fun trips you always take me on and for spoiling me even when I do not deserve it.

Thank you for teaching me unconditional love for The Lord. Thank you for teaching me about Him and what He expects from me. Thank you for taking me to church. Thank you for always making sure that I keep my faith. Thank you for always making sure I have my Bible with me. Thank you for teaching me that I am loved by such an almighty God who loves me and forgives me of my sins.

Thank you mom and dad for always loving me even when I forget to love myself sometimes.

Love,

Your daughter.

Amidst my hectic college career, I always find time for one thing, even on the busiest weeks: Parks and Recreation. This show has made me laugh and has made me cry, but most of all I have related to this show more than I would like to admit.

April Ludgate from Parks and Recreation is notorious for her "I don't care" attitude. She speaks her mind without caring what anyone thinks of her. Fans love her because she isn't afraid to be herself. April can seem cold and negative, but she's really just fearless and strong-minded. And despite her sometimes harsh words, April truly cares about the people she's closest to. These are all reasons she is the epitome of a college student. April complains whenever she has to do any kind of work, but ends up doing the work anyway. April Ludgate is the ultimate college student spirit animal.

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
